hello Cathy..dropping in for a sec to say hi...

(Cathy), MO

Hi Betty! How is everything in your world?

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Stopping by to say hi and bye. We are getting lightning so need to get off.

Have a good evening everyone.

Thanks again Mark for the link to your site.

(Cathy), MO

Storms here too, but 15 miles to the north of us. Can you believe there's a tornado warning out??!!! Crazy weather!

(Cathy), MO

Getting off for now. Thundering here too!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Our Siren just went off for a very long time, so might get blown away! That is all I need now that my oldest has broken his hand in wrestling practice! Will find out for sure when I figure out where to take him. :(

You are welcome for the link.................. pleased you enjoyed having a look at them!!!!!!

Gorgeous flowers Mark! I will make it a point to stop back by the site when I have more time. I can only dream of Crocosima, here they are the grasshoppers FAVORITE food. I have been unable to get a bloom in more than 5 years, as they eat them to the ground. Then on the other hand--the blister beetle whose larvae eat the hopper larvae completely defoliate my clematis every year. Have not had a bloom on the Sweet Autumn for 3 years now. The other species/cultivars are apparently less tasty, if only a little more so. If you have never dealt with these little monsters--one day you have 0, next day you have 100's all eating and pooping and procreating. Best part(?) is--only 1 or 2 insecticides (which I use only in dire emergency) are effective on them. I will be moving this clematis with me this spring, hopefully if I wash away all the dirt etc I will not take any critters with me to the new home. I seriously doubt it will survive another summer here otherwise.

Cathy, we had tornado warnings close by last night...driving home last night in fog and heavy rains, then the thunder and lightning started...
Today it's already 56..usually below 0 so quite a difference..almost all my 2 1/2 ft. of snow I had when I got home last Thursday from Florida is gone...not good for the snowmobilers nor the ski hills...

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Hi everyone, not going to stay on long today, I'm pooped. We had six different times the tornado sirens went off, I saw one funnel cloud. Lots of rain, hail and straight line 70 miles an hour winds. The last one was at 3:30 this morning. Just south of us there was 1 death and numerous injuries. It was nasty last night.

Went out and assessed the damage outside, not too bad, thank heavens. Pond is over full, so is the lagoon. Water sitting everywhere in the yard. I lost 3 flower gardens that I just winter sowed. But we are all still kicking. It doesn't look like it affected the horses in anyway and I still have all my chickens. Darn, that means I still have to go feed everything before I can take a nap.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Hi all, hope everyone survived the rough weather last night! We had some pretty rough storms, but everything is still in tact!
My son did break his hand. It is what’s called an oblique fracture of the 3rd metacarpal with proximal displacement. He is in what is called a soft cast for now, and will see the Surgeon sometime next week to see if surgery is required.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank goodness you are all ok..just getting ready to leave work..sky is blacker than black..raining..would imagine I'll encounter fog further north..rough way to make a living..lol... sorry to hear about your son..

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Betty! I was trying to thank you earlier and this puter decided it didn't want me to and had to search for which link it was in! LOL
I think we have more weather headed our way, so thinking of catching a nap since I didn't get much sleep last night. Hope everyone is safe out there in this nasty weather!

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Stay safe and dressed in case you have ot make a run for it.....And for heavens sake post as soon as you can so we know everyone is all right.

Lauri

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Lauri. Funny you should mention the staying dressed part! I have been having dreams, or nightmares, about something happening that I end up not being dressed and standing outside with little on! LOL Hope you and Mark are well, too!
HUGS

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Tammy
We are doing great , thanks...How are you doing?? Get your nap yet?
When we would have the big wild land fires up in Calif and under standby evacuations that is the one thing you did was stay dressed 24/7 just incase....LOL that would be bad to run out in ones bloomers!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks you girls, needed a laugh..but all kidding aside be safe..

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Lauri, glad to hear you two are doing well. And that is good advice for people with worries, for sure! Bad for those that sleep in their birthday suit! LOL (I have one of those, too!)
My Dad was here when all the wild fires was going on in California, but he said before he left it was so bad it was blowing the smoke for miles around and a lot of people had to stay inside, or be sure to wear things over their face to breathe.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Oh, forgot, still no nap. :( Fighting with this stupid pooter!
Glad to give you a laugh, Betty! :)
Brandon just proved them wrong at the hospital cause he just got out of the shower and his cast is totally dry! :)

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Afternoon y'all.......................

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

I didn't know there was a new thread-So sorry!! :o)
Cathy, please forgive me.
Mark-I love watching snooker and Ken Doherty was my fave! I was cheering him on the year he won the World Championship because my hubby wanted Hendry to win...I have stuck with Ken after that! We don't get snooker over here so i have to keep up with the stats on the net or watch bits and bobs on You Tube...same for Time Team-I go to You Tube to get my fix. LOL

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

LOL..............

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Lauri says you cannot get snooker etc in the states........... I thought you would be able to get them!!

Hendry...................... is he scottish??????????????????????????

Time Team............. love watching that!!

Do you want me to put them on vcr and send you them???????????????

Mark

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

Yes, Hendry is Scottish-hence Boog loving him. He also likes Brian May, Marillion (I am sure I spelled that one wrong), and Beans on toast-LOLOL

It was because of Time Team that I came back to the states and put my behind back into University and studied History and Anthropology. I enjoyed the Excavations I have been on-hoped to go back to Scotland and work as there isn't a heck of a lot of history here in MN. LOL
I will excavate this site one day-I hope to own it. My youngest and I spent every day up on this hill, I daydreaming about the history, he-picking the brambles until his entire body was purple.
http://www.darkisle.com/k/knockamillie/knockamillie.html

The VCR thing...your videos don't work in my player....I would have to ask Boog how to get around that though-there may be a way-I would LOVE LOVE LOVE videos of Time Team.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Beans on Toast.................. cool!!
Lauri loves heinz Beans + sausage on toast............. yummmmmmy

Wow, that would be so cool to go to knockamillie castle and dig............ hope one day you manage to get there and do it!!! You would probably find alsorts of wonderful things!!
There isn't that much history in the whole of the USA is there????????? LOL

Oh, never thought about the VCR being different here............... hope Boog finds a way of gettin round it!!!!

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

We have decent history on the east coast-other than that, not much before 1830. I mean, my house is considered historic and it is only just under 90-LOL

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Isn't it the east coast that was discovered by us brits????????????????

Wow your house is nearly 90............... ours is about 130.

Caistor had a huge fire in 1680 something i think it was, most of the old buildings were destroyed in it...

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

April 7 1681 - The Great Fire of Caistor

DID you know the present layout of Caistor was influenced by the Great Fire of 1681?
On April 7 of that fateful year, the fire started in the house of John Sheriffe and from his home the flames spread rapidly.
A report of the fire was in the Parish Register:
'In ye space of three or foure houres (at the furthest) were consumed and burnt down to ye ground, ye greater half of ye dwelling houses, barnes, stables and outhouses in the town, with all ye shops and warehouses (save one Mercer's shop in ye Beast Market). Five and fourty families were made desolate and without habitation.'
The damage was estimated at £6,786 and a brief was issued for the relief of the sufferers.
Several people died in the flames and are recorded in the Register of Burials.
Nicholas Elston was one of the victims and his death is set down in the register as follows:
'NICHOLAS ELSTON FILUS ELIZABETHAE VID: INCENDIO CONSUMPTUS SEPULT (Buried) APRILIS 8VO.'
There were collections in England for the relief of the victims. Here are three examples:

September 17 1682 Compton, Hampshire, 4s 8d collected.
July 9 1682 Caxton, Holderness, 2s 10d collected.
July 9 1682 Bideford, Devon, 5s 7d collected.

The rebuilding of the Caistor Square in brick instead of wood gave us the present town centre.
Caistor House was built in 1682 and was the first house built after the fire.
The Sessions House, built in 1662 and used as a Magistrates Court, is the oldest building in Caistor to have survived the flames.

Morning. You two sure have been busy! LOL

(Cathy), MO

Morning Tammy. All quiet in your area today?

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

Morning Tammy!
Mark-that is amazing stuff....I love history!!
Well much of the American 'contemporary' history was after the British discovery-but, I spent an entire summer excavating a site that was prehistoric. Before written history. I am more interested in Historic Anthropology myself :o)
Mark-do you enjoy history-and by the way-how close are you to the London area-or do you ever go there often...I may have to send you on a secret gardening mission for me :o)
One that only someone there can do :o)
Robbi

(Cathy), MO

Hey Robbi, I am just now catching up in the threads, but what happened with your computer? Is it toast?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Morning Cathy & Robbi! :) It is quiet on the home front! YAAAAAAY Even a bit of sun. :)
ER Doc called last night and Brandon could be looking at surgery to repair his hand because of where it is broken. :(

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I love history too................... round here you can dig a hole and find something.......... i have found countless roman coins, bronze age spears etc etc.

London is quite a long way from here and i never go there................ the last time i went was on a school trip i think!! LOL
ooooooooooooooooooooooo what is this secret mission??????????????????

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Good afternoon Mark & Lauri! :)

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Good afternoon me dear........................ how is you??????????

(Cathy), MO

Sorry to hear it Tammy. I was afraid of that

(Cathy), MO

Should we start calling Mark "Secret Agent Man"????

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Better today, thanks Mark. :)
Let's call him S.A.M. LOL

I really hope no surgery, but that doc just wasn't enthusiastic against it. :(
