TV has just been getting either dumb and dumber, or real and more real. There's hardly anything that I just HAVE to drop things for and watch anymore.
I, too, really liked Northern Exposure. And ... Jericho.
Oh, wait a minute! Yes! There IS something I will drop anything for and watch ... 24.
Movies, TV, & Stars,What is you favorite and least favorite?
I love Boston Legal, too. "Denny Crane" is just too much! What I like is that a bunch of people who are as different as people can be, get along (for the most part), and care about each other. They are a "family" with all the warts and wrinkles. I also like that they address contemporary "justice" issues.
Dave, I remember that Sam Waterston show - I'll Fly Away (?) - very good.
Candyce - I liked 24 a couple years ago, but then it started getting a bit wierd. My DH refuses to watch it because it is so unsettling. My son and I get such a kick out of Bower. He has the longest lasting cell phone battery in history!!! And he never loses a signal like we do in NH!! I'll probably have to check it out this year to see if I can take it again. Once they killed off Edgar Stiles in such a gross way, I had to take a break for a bit. My family gives me a hard time about loving the spine-tingling shows and movies, and I have to admit I like suspenseful books too. I just don't like blood and violence unless I can look away and I can get through it if the plot is good enough. How about that Chloe??? Could she look mean or what?? LOL
I'm upset because rumor has it "Journeyman" has been discontinued. I finally find a show that's not all about blood & guts or sex and they take it off. FIGURES!
Louise, I have a friend that was addicted to 24, but she swore it off this year. "that guy never goes to the bathroom" Maybe his cell phone and his kidneys have some sort of symbiotic relationship.
Yes, Venu - the mega-bladder is another of his assets! My son just told me that Bower may have to be written out of the first few episodes.....he may be in jail or rehab in real life. I'll bet he escapes.....
Not many SCTV fans left Victor - I watched that quite a bit, also Kids in the Hall.
I loved their Godfather skit. And Jeopardy.
I always remember a John Candy skit with the pumkinblaster and no allspice, Don Kirschner rock concert....oooooh they blowd up reaalll goood.
Movie actors - Cary Grant, Orson Welles, James Stewart, Ray Milland, Sidney Greenstreet, Paul Muni, Bogey, Cagney, Jack Lemmon, Newman, Robert Montgomery, Brando, Peck, Tracey, Cooper, DeNiro, Pacino, Hoffman, Nicholson, Henry Fonda, Duval...
That's just a start - with the older ones.
Yeah, they were great, Al!
"I'll Fly Away"!! Thanks Sue.
Re Boston Legal. Shatner does the best acting of his life (admittedly the bar was not set so high, but I didn't think he had it in him) I also love the Autism spectrum lawyer.
OMG- I forgot about "My Name is Earl"!!!!!
I haven't laughed so hard at a show since Beavis, but then, that's my level of humor. Customer at bar: "This is beer with Kool-Aid in it!" Reply from regular: "You shouldn't have ordered the red wine!"
"The Office" scares me- it's funny, but Steve Carrell's role is too much like every boss I've ever worked for! *Cringe*
no 24 this year, due to the writers' strike. should give kiefer enough time to deal with his legal woes...
and no golden globes either. just a press conference to announce the winners.
Movie actors: Paul Giamatti and Margaret Rutherford
old TV actors: Alan Alda and Art Carney
current TV actors: (are there any?)
But I love Golden Globes.
Al!
Victor,
I love As Time Goes By. It's the only TV show I watch these days.
Hi Loretta. My wife and I have watched them so many times! We lost touch for a while before getting back together so there is a parallel for us.
Al- It's good to hear I'm not the only SCTV fan in the asylum. We
still have the Mackenzie brothers X-Mas album on vinyl. Catherine O'Hara was great as the slutty, tipsy lounge singer, I think her name was Dusty Towne and she sang a dirty opening to the Christmas Song, "Chas's nuts roasting by an open fire".
You had to be there. Does anyone still have access to the Red Green show? It ran on PBS here in NH but disappeared without
explanation a few years ago. It was great low-budget backwoods
humor.
Make that 3 SCTV fans, drzz! Remember Julia Child boxing Mr. Rogers??
Anyone a fan of Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) movies?
I liked SCTV too, and Red Green was very funny! I'm not sure what happened to that show!
Amy - no 24...really??? I was getting geared up to have my heart in my throat and to go to sleep wired! Good old Marwan! He could creep me out in a heartbeat! I thought Kiefer could do a show on location in a prison....sort of like Victor! We all love his schtick!!
Gee, I like Ellen DeGeneres!
Second thumbs down for Ellen Degenerate. ☺ lol!
( She did do a good voice over in 'Finding Nemo'. ☺)

Another Ellen fan here. Her dry, self-conscious humor reminds me of Bob Newhart
I like Ellen. She's very talented and makes me laugh big time. GREAT entertainer.
i like ellen - not so much her sitcom, but her talk show is fun, and she's done well hosting award shows.
That's a good comparison, Dave. I just love her timing and her delivery.
I do like Ellen as a female stand up comedian, trying to think of others - Paula Poundstone and Rita Rudner are funny also.
Was she ever a male comedian??!!!
I haven't finished my research on that yet.
Ewwwwww!
I like Ellen too.
One of the genuinely funniest people ever was Steve Allen. I had the pleasure of meeting him in Manhattan.
Victor!
Amazing. I made a birthday cake for him and took it to his house in Encino.... lived a few blocks from me. Jayne answered the door and called him to the door to get the cake from me and my girlfriend. I was in jr high with his sons. GREAT family!
Ooh, this might be fun - "Your Brush with TV Greatness"!! Anybody else?
I worked in television for awhile many years ago B.C. (Before Children) so I won't count those days, but as a teenager I worked as a maid in a local motel. A co-worker came running in saying how a customer had their towel bar fall off the wall, and they weren't too pleased, but the big news was that it was "the guy from All in the Family. No- " as we all got excited - "not Archie, but the neighbor".
Turned out to be Vincent Gardenia. This poor guy had more motel workers going in to "look at his towel bar", lol! I don't even know if it ever got fixed!
I'll give fair warning... I grew up in the San Fernando Valley CA in the '50s and '60s and brushed lots of stars. Sally Field, Annette Funicello, Robert Young, Cindy Williams, Edward Byrnes, (Cookie), Lori Martin (TV Nat'l Velvet) etc. I'll stop 'cause I make myself sick with this... can't help it.
Go for it!!!
