sadie_mae...........I guess it's what you get used to, I think your Blue Jays are striking.

Wow...beautiful pics on this new thread!

Today was too cold and windy so I had to shoot from inside...you know what that means!

I believe this is a Purple Finch (I'm usually wrong)! LOL!

ROTFLOL- You hit that nail on the head Resin.

Klamath River, CA

resin.......they're not fat just heavy feathered. (at least that what they tell me when I threaten to cut down on the chow)

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thank you Pelle and Resin!

Adel...I love your Quail! What kind of predators do they have in your area?

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Nice photos everyone. I took this photo yesterday and just considered it for my favorite of the year but didn't because of its overall quality. After catching the fish the eagle dropped it and I was luckily able to catch the fish before it dropped back into the water.

adel, you are so funny!

I want a Purple Finch too...wah!

Linth, that is a great shot of your eagle!

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

Very nice pic every one!

Adel, I think your right about it being what you get used to. I don't pay that much attention to the Cardinals any more because they're so common and then I read a remark from someone who doesn't have them and look at them in a whole new light.

Resin, I'm sure glad I didn't have a mouth full of drink when I read your obese Quail comment, that was TOO funny, LOL!!!

Rose, congrats on the Purple Finch! I'm still waiting to see a male, I still just have the 1 female here.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Adel...thanks for the info and the link, both very interesting.

Nanny and Sadie...we have lots of Purple and House Finches here but I've never seen a Redpoll!

lewiston, ID(Zone 6a)

Wow, what a shot, Linth. I am absolutely in awe of all of you guys photos...the eagles have returned to our area to nest into the spring and you can tell by the behavior of our turkeys....they stay close to cover all the time....Deb

Ugh, Woke up to a flock of Starlings in the yard but within minutes a Hawk came screeching through the yard and they left. :-)

Marlton, NJ

Its very cold and windy today w/ occasional flurries.

I threw some cheap seed around for some of the ground feeders.

Heres a Dark-eyed Junco.

I was surprised to see a couple of Starlings out at our feeder yesterday! Those are first we have had in our yard for the year we have lived, thank goodness!

Got a couple shots of geese flying over the other day. Had a couple of huge flocks and I just caught the tail end of one followed by the smaller group.

Nanny and Pelle good luck on the Starlings. I have just made another batch of suet and hopefully someone will get a taste besides the Starlings! Grrrrrrr!!!! DH is gonna get me a big bag of chopped corn...hopefully I can scatter around in the fields and they will leave the other feed alone (in my dreams anyway)!!

Pelle...Your old camera looks pretty good to me!

I don't think I've shared this photo...it was one of my favorites from a few days ago (when the sun was shining and the wind wasn't blowing and the temps were livable)!

Happy New Year Everyone on this wonderful forum!! :0)

I was just watching my female Red-bellied at the feeder.

Rose and Pelle, I've got a special something for you gals.
LOL Rose if you ever succeed, with that corn let me know. I'm trying all sort of things here hoping they will leave the suet and seeds alone. I'm on table left overs right now.
Pelle can I have permission to send pic of house finch to my sister, in PEI Canada
Nanny nice pics of the geese. Hope the Starlings leaves your yard alone.

Thanks sadie_mae, We didn't start having Quail in the yard until about 4 years ago when we planted the corn patch. They started showing up a few at a time in the fall when the corn stalks were tall and after the corn was gone they started eating the seed under the feeders and now it's an annual occurrence and I put a Wildbird block out. Now we have around 20-30 in the covey, they'll split up about April-May during the breeding season and they won't be back until Sept when the corn is tall and they can hide from the cats and other predators and start the process all over again. I Love it!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Today, I got a pics of these guys, and the Juncos, and Red polls . I haven't seen the Sisken lately . And of course the Starlings, and a funny little squirrel popping in and out of the snow.

Thanks Pelle, She retiring, and wants to take on, birding as a hobby ( ID birds), She love to take Nature walks, and take pictures. This will help her ID those she's got around her place.

Klamath River, CA

This flock showed up after the snow quit. The nice thing about them is I don't have to feed them.
