Is that only for women??
Happy Birthday to Victor and Meeeee!!!!
Of course!
Happy anniversary, Pirl!
I guess if you KNOW you're only getting married once, pick a good date like Jan 1 or Valentine's Day or something. I got married the first time in the best month for weddings - June. Of course, I thought then it would be the only time. The next two times I got married in August - both times HE chose the date. But I've come to realize, the date doesn't matter, the size of the engagement ring/party doesn't matter, the whole wedding brou-ha-ha doesn't matter - what matters is the marriage! (The people involved probably matter too, LOL.)
x, C
We chose March because neither of us liked the month, therefor it would give us something to look forward to in March. Weird,no?
You're right, Dave47 - that is wierd.
What's the date and how long have you been knotted?
Picked May cause everything was is awakening and new. Picked the 14th because it's my Dad's birthday.
And yes Dave that is weird, but I understand it. LOL
June, because it was the only time off my wife could get.
August, 'cause we had just spent the previous 5 months travelling the wilderness of British Columbia. Had the honeymoon first, then a very, very, small wedding (total guest list = 17)
March 17. 18 years
You were married on St. Pat's day? Gee, being married for only 18 years. . . why, you are practically newly weds!
I bet i'm the newliest wed - well, except for the real kids like Amy - but we got married in 2000. Michaela - the honeymoon first - do you mean you two - you know - before you were married - you know - did it? Was that LEGAL back then? Well, maybe in Canada. You two hot tamales! xx, Carrie
May wedding, actually wanted a Fall wedding, but definitely not a Summer wedding. Had to wait for DH to get out of school.
On St. Pats? Pretty cool. Convenient if some of your guests get drunk and unruly. You can deny it was related to your wedding but was St. Pat's Day! Are you 18 already or coming up? We'll be 17 in June.
March is a good time - winter ending, no school days off that month, etc.
Carrie, I have a brother who's on his third marriage. He divorced his first two wives because they were "educated" (we found out later). He's a carpenter and didn't like his wife to be smarter and with a better job than him. His present wife is from Panama, met on the internet, couldn't speak a stitch of English. They're happily married with a child, living in Tennessee!
We got married in January (12th, 1991) because we got engaged in the Fall and (1) we wanted to at least wait until after the holidays, (2) I said we weren't going to be engaged for four years like one of his brothers, and (3) we didn't want to have to wait 'forever' for sex!
I would like to respond to that, but...
Dave - good idea to find a reason to celebrate a month neither of you were thrilled with and St. Patrick's Day is a fun day anyhow.
The negative people said everyone would show up with a hangover for our wedding but not one appeared to have had the problem and every guest did show up, regardless of the negative people saying we'd be paying for people who couldn't make it.
Thanks, Polly, for the good wishes.
JD - cakes really can look good and taste good, regardless of the views of some witchy woman.
Victor is behaving! I'll alert the press.
Our wedding was during a snowstorm but, still, about 400 people showed up at the church! At the time we were very active in that church which was large. And the reception was there, too - a "coffee and dessert" one so that no one would have to be excluded.
Very thoughtful of you.
Yes, I always scheduled weddings for a time of day when I wouldn't be expected to provide a huge reception replete with meal, bar, etc. Primrose, being "educated" myself, I like to think my reasons for being divorced the first two times were really important ones. Be that as it may, the third time has definitely been the charm for me. But I'm not even sure I KNOW 400 people! xxx, Carrie
I always wanted the totally formal morning wedding with the 20 foot train and the men in grey morning suits (they have tails) and grey tophats :-)
What I got was a thrown together wedding and my DH in a horrible peacock blue tuxedo with a frilly tux shirt. And the only cufflinks he had were these truly horrible huge pink "jewels" ugh.
I wanted my mother to want that for me Michaela, I wanted a Sound of Music wedding... My Mom was so anti-establishment she thought I was ridiculous. But I'd rather have safety pins than those horrible pink jewels! x, C
We are 18 pushing 19. It's 2nd time for both of us. No previous kids for either of us.
Didn't you once say you had a wide range of ages for your kids??
For my first wedding (never got there - only 19 and I gave the ring back) anyway, get this - I wanted Fronte and Teicher (sp) playing Exodus!
Good God, what was I thinking of! lol
And HE didn't give the ring back?!!!
Our kids are very spaced
Hey Dave - my youngest daughters Birthday is on the same date as your Anniversary...March 17th!!!
Dh and I got married in April - I love springtime and I wanted to beat the heat!!
Seandor - my ex wanted "Strangers on the Shore" for the first dance: he never danced at all so there was no first dance but you can bet that wasn't the song they played.
Second time it was "Love Me Tender".
Victor, Our kids are 34, 24, 15 and 8. But we (and I say "we" generously including me) are genetic parents of only one of them. (permanent foster kids and an adopted foster kid.) We are into recycleing
No he didn't give the ring back! Actually, can you believe I was proposed to seven times before I was 22? (I only accepted twice - and once I gave the ring back, and the next time I stayed with the fellow :-)
Anyway, it was the westcoast, it was the 70s, and I was relatively good looking and sober. Honestly, everyone my age was either stoned on Tequila Sunrise drinks or stoned on hallucenegenics (sp?). Anyway, I had left home when I was 16, so I knew the social agencies would never drag me back home if I was sober, never was pregnant, and was totally self reliant and self supporting.
I actually REMEMBER the 70s and I cannot think why that decade deserves its own tv show.
So, I guess I was the girl fellows figured they could take home to meet Mom without too much embarrassment (I actually used to blush when people would swear . . . I had to go to university to learn to talk like a fish monger!)
That's nice Dave. You guys are to be commended!
Michaela, I grew up in the 70's and loved it. From 7 to 17 during those years.
I had Stevie Wonder's Ribbon in the Sky, then at the one that lasted we each chose one. Anita picked Wind Beneath My Wings and I picked a song that doesn't sound romantic but is: You're my home (Billy Joel)
Love Ribbon. We had an oldie called 'That's All'.
That's All
(Alan Brandt, Bob Haymes)
I can only give you love that lasts forever
And a promise to be near each time you call,
And the only heart I own
For you and you alone,
That's all, that's all.
I can only give you country walks in springtime
And a hand to hold when leaves begin to fall,
And a love whose burning light
Will warm the winter night,
That's all, that's all.
There are those, I am sure, that have told you
They would give you the world for a toy.
All I have are these arms to enfold you
And a love time can never destroy.
If you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear,
You'll be glad to know that my demands are small.
Say it's me that you'll adore
For now and ever more,
That's all, that's all.
~interlude~
If you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear,
You'll be glad to know that my demands are small.
Say it's me that you'll adore
For now and ever more,
That's all...that's all.
Wow, I missed this one! Belated Happy Birthday to you both!
:)
Dee
I think I would pick music from Harry Potter now :-)
I have actually picked the music for my funeral - it is the happiest music I can find. And the funeral directions absolutely forbid playing "Amazing Grace" or anyone reading "Footprints" - can you imagine going out on a cliche? (Watch . . . everyone will love Amazing Grace and think I'm an insensitive clod 'cause I've heard Footprints one too many times. . . . sigh)
Anyway, the music is by John Williams and it is from the soundtrack to the film Empire of the Sun - it's called oh, rats, can't remember . . . something like Extant Jubilation .
We've chosen to have no services, no funeral scenes. Simple cremation and the only music will the the waves hitting the shoreline and the sound of the sea gulls.
