Turnips now?

Pelzer, SC(Zone 7b)

Okay, probably a dumb question....If I were to plant turnip seeds now, will they grow when it gets warm enough, or just never be seen again? I have a "new" (to me, anyway) tiller and I'm dying to try it, but I feel the need to plant something, rather than just churning up the dirt/clay/rocks.
Any Thoughts?

Depending on the vagaries of weather, They will probably come up and grow now. The soil here is still relatively warm. Cold front supposed to be coming. I usually wait till the first of February but then I still have plenty of fall turnips and greens.

Thanks Farmerdill :)
I have recently "discovered' turnip greens, and I want LOTS! Yeah, I was planning on letting the upcoming front pass, but Feb 1st isn't that far off:)
Next year I'll do better....

the best time to start your turnip is early spring, then they get time to settle before it gets too hot, you are best to have mature turnips in the soil when a frost comes as most like a bit of cold when mature, but seeds will be in shock if they get chilled at the very early stage, this can cause them to bolt into flower or start root diseases if your not careful, best to get the soil nice and ready now with your new tiller and be ready for the early spring planting. good luck.
