DAILY PICS VOL 45

Marlton, NJ

Do you think it would be best to just start an Identify Me thread for everyone?

Marlton, NJ

The White -breasted Nuthatch made numerous visits today but I never seemed to be able to get a good pic of him. They are great little birds!

He seems to be going after the Nut n Berry mix in this feeder more than the peanuts at the top.

Great pics everyone! ;-)

pelle..............I think an ID me thread would be good.

kaperc...............I'm surprised you don't have Gambel's Quail down there. Do you have room for a brush pile and a quail guzzler? That might bring them in, along with seed scattered on the ground near the brush pile.......a guzzler doesn't have to be elaborate, just a shallow pan or depression to hold fresh water.............after looking at the book again it's looks like you could have Calif. Quail or Gambel's or both. It appears that you are on the dividing line.(slight chance for Mountain Quail)

"love my tree" - that's priceless, dellrose!

adelbertcat - we had quail when we moved here four years ago, but they seemed to have disappeared - haven't seen a one for at least two years. They were usually at our neighbors' place across the road - they have a wide open area next to them - the roadrunners nest over there, too. They don't seem to cross the street, but we have lots of cover for them, including a brush pile, if they do. We have a pond with a shallow beach - would they use that?

I think you've mentioned it before, but what type of seed?

Klamath River, CA

Kaperc...............it sounds like you've got every thing they could want. I use Walmart's song bird mix. They don't seem to be picky. You say you had Quail when you first moved there but they disappeared. Have you had an increase of house cats or Fox in the area? Has the area became more populated with people?

Boy, I didn't really get a chance yesterday to look at all the great pics here! I have to quit missing out!

How about some chickadee's today...

I've been enjoying everyone's daily pics and yesterday I finally got a few that are worthy of sharing here.

I know these are some type of nuthatch. I just posted them in the ID me thread (great idea, by the way!) but I'm too impatient to wait before posting here, lol.

I was out fixing up the wooded trail that runs behind my house, and it was great getting to see how many more birds there are in the woods than there used to be before I started feeding.

Here's another cute pic. I call this one "Hangin' Out".

Here he is on the tree. See, this is what I was talking about when I was complaining about my camera in the other thread. It's not that it's out of focus, but on a 6 megapix camera, I think this photo should look more crisp.

edit to say: Oh, it was zoomed, but I was standing less than 10 feet away and this is not cropped at all.

Thanks kaperk, good luck in finding your Quail.

Adel...I have some great brush piles in some of our fields and I think I will put out some seed and see if it attracts any birds, hopefully some quail. I know we must have some in our area.

Granny, I still haven't been able to get a decent pic of the Dee's, you have some great ones at your feeders. I am jealous!

Peeper...You are doing a great job and I love your pics and birdies!

This is a Dee in MY yard...there were three of them sitting together but this is the only pic that could be ID...too far up in the tree!

Awe, aren't Dee's just the cutest things? I never get tired of seeing pics of them. Look at that little face! Just makes you wanna pinch his little cheeks!

I just got my first pic of a Dee in my yard minutes ago, but I had to snap so quick (and it's hard to find them in the viewfinder up in the tree!) that it's not in great focus. Oh well. Like you, dellrose, I'm just excited to have one from MY yard. We will both just have to keep trying for that pic we want. At least yours is in focus.

Wow I really had a lot of catching up to do. Had to go back to the old thread and now this new one. Great pictures everyone.

My FIL puts out food for the Sandhill cranes that visit several times a week. I was lucky enough to see them close up. You can get very close to them even when they are eating. One seems to stand guard while the other one eats. Can anyone tell me which is male and female. They look alike to me.

They came back later in the afternoon while I was napping. The food was long gone. DH said they dug up a mole and ate it. I missed it!!! Here they are leaving thru the neighbors yard.

adelbertcat - never seen or heard of a fox here. We had a couple of cats roaming around for a while, but haven't seen them for a long time - probably coyote food. A couple of neighbors let their dogs roam until the road or coyotes get them, too. (Then they get a 'new' pet - disgusting behavior.) We have a lot of hawks, kites, etc.

I have a dry seed/grain mix for our parrots - I'll try putting some of that out and see what happens.

Marlton, NJ

Great pics everyone!

Becky I Love those Sandhill Cranes.
