Two Blue Jays at the birdbath today.
DAILY PICS VOL 45
Stopping by, great pics everybody!!
Nice pics everyone!
LOL! feathered snow plows! ;-)
Man you guys were scaring me...couldn't figure where pics of our turkeys entered the thread 'til I went back and re-read it...those turk pics were taken during their mating season, ours look like yours, too, unless the tail is up or you look for beards...here is a pic I took day before yesterday of them trying to figure out how to get in the area where we are feeding the wild birds...I know it's goofy after looking at all the different bird pictures but I love our turks and think they are gorgeous...Bob & I call them "the Boys".....one morning about 6am I was still sleeping in bed with our male Boston Terrier dog who is as excitable and "birdy" as a hunting dog....Bob had went down the driveway to get the paper and started carrying on a conversation with three turks coming up the hill toward our deck...he would call to them, they would call back...went on all the way back to the house, so he comes into bedroom, slides sliding glass door open about 2ft and says to me "listen to this" and makes the turkey call to have me hear them answering him. Gus, the dog, hears it out of his sleep, flys off the bed, hits the screen which of course was closed, knocks it off the door + bends it, Bob has a laughing fit that ends up with him practically passing out and I just lay in bed amongst all the chaos and think to myself.....that's what happens when one turkey in the house talks to other turkeys outside.....Bob had to fix the screen......

Too funny Depsi. All your turkeys are wonderful, even the one in the house. For him to carry on a conversation with the other turkeys, that's pretty amazing. LOL
We don't get those birds here. I didn't know much about them. You've clarified it very well for me. :) Now I know they can talk.
You'd be surprised how vocal they are...chirping, peeping, many different nuances in their communication. They walk along in a line like a scrimidge/football (spelling???) formation or single file all the time talking with each other...that's how the hunters call them in close enough to kill. 'Corse Heaven help anyone around here hurting our boys.....We have had as much as 36 at one time on our property. The ones in these pics I just posted are young ones from this year's spring brood. We had a nest on our property once a year ago but predators found it before anything hatched...here's a pic...Deb
Funny story Depsi!
This beautiful slideshow was posted recently in another forum (wildlife gardening)
but I wanted to make sure everyone one saw it because its so sweet!

Thanks for the link Pelle...that was fantastic!
Dep...we have wild turkeys here too and we just love them. I enjoyed your pics!
Marilyn..we're having the same weather as you. No sun, cold, rain, yukky!!!
Awww Pelle, that was so beautiful, so sweet. Thank you.
.
Must have been impressive to see that many turkeys at one time.
I'm with you, I wouldn't want anyone hunting my birds either. They're my pets .
I see in a lot of the pictures here, hardly anyone has snow.
Only Adel and Me have a lots of that white stuff!!!
I don't really mind, I prefer snow to rain, especially this time of year .
Thank Equilibrium; she was the person who first posted it.
Glad you liked it. I've watched it 3 times since it was originally posted.
I wish our weather was good enough for taking pics but its usually raining or too dark most of the time.
Beautiful shots Linth!!
Thanks for sharing them w/ us!
Pelle
Love your pics Linth!
Deb, don't ya just love it when they show up and beg to have their pic taken?! Cute litte Junco!
Indiana..I've been having lots and lots of Doves also and I see you have a cute little Junco in there also!
I completely missed the Junco earlier, Dellrose! Thanks for pointing that out! :)
Missed this one before . . .
Goldfinches? found and devoured one of our sunflowers (in two days) from this past summer. Looks like we'll have to hang another.
4 American Goldfinches, 1 Pine Siskin (streaky bird, top right with wings part-open), 1 Dark-eyed Junco (on sloping branch at right)
Resin
PS Idea: maybe if anyone has 'unknown' birds they want identified, put them on a different thread "Birds to be identified Vol. 1" or similar, so they don't get missed in fast-moving threads like the Daily Pics ones?
I swear I'll never get tired of seeing your quail. Could you just pack some up and send 'em down here? :-)
LOL Adel! I love those pics and captions and that last one is so adorable. If you have any to spare I'd like a few quail too!!
Oops sorry Depsi, I missed that Pine Sisken.
Nice pics adel and dellrose!
Resin, good suggestion...I think my husband was just making conversation...we are both new to this threadand don't always understand the protocol....we'll get another thread going....Deb
