They are gorgeous, I am the very proud owner of one! Love em Pixy!
Patron Saints
Pix, they are stunner - I think showing them at Heidi's is a very nice idea.
oh--couldn't tell from the first pic --have you tried selling them on the dave's classified adds? --thank you so much for showing another picture of one--do you mind my asking if you still sell and ship them?
They would go beautifully with jim's spheres!
I think I need some of both for my garden!
of course now i want to see jim's spheres too!! see what you have started! is heidi's place somewhere near you?
Planolinda -
A group of PNWers went on a little nursery field trip to Dragonfly Farms Nursery (http://dragonflyfarmsnursery.com/), owned and run by Heidi (cattledogs is her handle). There's a thread about it from last summer.
I didn't go, but wish I had. I haven't seen Jim's sphere's either, but want to.
Nice leaves, Melissa. Beautiful.
I can hardly wait!! I'd also like to have one of your leaves someday, too, M. They are beautiful. I just need to think of the right way to display it.
Planolinda.
here is the link to the pics that where taken at Heidis, when we visited her

thanks--i really enjoyed the pictures---you northwesterners have it made with all that rain! keeps everything so green!! i spent a few summers in washington state and just loved it--but when i went back a few years ago i couldn't believe the traffic!! must be a popular place!
Fair weather friend, Planolinda!! LOL! Yes, the summers here are what keep most of the people going through the dreary winters. The summers are beautiful. The winters must be endured. And we get very little rain, if any, in the summers.
The traffic is a nightmare. It is affecting everyone I know. Most of the time, I would rather stay home than drive anywhere. My mom lives about 30 miles away and I hardly ever see her because getting there is an absolute nightmare.
Lucky for us we live in Oregon...small town, not a lot of traffic until you get up around Portland or in Eastern Oregon near Bend.
We do not have the traffic like WA most of the time.
D
Hi irisloverdee. My brother lives in Philomath, my folks in Corvallis. I went to OSU 20+ years ago (wow, hard to believe it's been that long). It's soooo nice to go down and visit. We can decided to go to a movie at the last minute, and then finish dinner, do the dishes, get ready to go, drive downtown and still have time to buy popcorn. Love the life in the valley.
I can tell that it's worse than it used to be, but it's still so much nicer than getting across town up here.
D, katie, I was born in Tillamook, Ore. my brothers and sisters still live there. but I moved away years ago, got tired of milking cows. I make several trips there a year. yes the Willamette Valley is very beautiful. you see farm after farm of nursery stock. I had a Great Aunt and Uncle that lived at Woodburn Estates. near Lebanon. but they are gone now. Oregon is like everywhere else though. the population is increasing. I got cultural shock when I took my Daughter and Granddaughter down the coast to Lincoln City and Newport. it was like downtown Portland. sad. there are some nurseries I'd like to hit this spring. I made some great buys on Acer Palmatums in a little town called Grand Round. $13 for a 3ft Yukigomo, and Beni Schihenge. I'd have paid 4 times that in any nursery around here. Jim
Jim . . . good secret to know. A nursery in Grand Round with awesome acer palmatum prices. I might have to make a trip that direction. hee hee . . .
Yeah, there are just too many of us everywhere. My SIL is from Tillamook and her parents still live there. Her former BIL owns Tillamook country smoker. I haven't meandered along the Oregon Coast for quite awhile, but I fear that the quaintness is all but gone. It's a national, if not international vacation destination anymore. The secret is out. I'm starting to understand how my parents' and grandparents' generations felt. Eeeek!!
Are you going to make the Winter Seed Sowing Festival this weekend, do you think? I'm looking forward to meeting you, if not there, then at the next nursery tour.
Katie, I haven't heard of the Winter Seed Festival. but really doubt if I can go. I have 4 shelves full of my Hosta 07 seedlings, I still have some germinating that will fill the 5th. and that's it unless I buy another grow rack. the only thing that I'll start early is Tomatoes. and I'll move some of my seedlings out to the greenhouse to make room for the Tomatoes. what kind of seeds are offered at the Festival? I suppose there's some good ones there. good luck if you go. I'm going to the PW Flower and Garden Show at the convention center is Seattle, probably on Wednesday. Jim
Hey Jim - a bunch of us are getting together in Redmond Saturday afternoon to share seeds and do some winter sowing. I got a little excited and titled it "Festival". It's at the Holy Cross Church in Remond (where the Green Elephant Swap is) and starts at 1:00. Some of us are meeting at the Chipotle Restaurant in Remond beforehand at 11:30.
Jim (Firevicar) will have extra seeds and the rest of us are bringing a few extras, too. Heidi from Dragonfly sent a bunch of seeds to Rachierabbit to bring.
We'd love to see you there!!
Here's the thread about it:

Kathleen
Katie59, with you there I'll bet it will turn into a festival! Have lots of fun! I'll be thinking of all of you. L
katie, I'm sorry to say, I just can't make it. I'd love to visit with all of you. I'll make the next get together. thanks for inviting me. Jim
Have a good weekend Jim! We will be thinking of you as we paw through the dirt! Rachel
Or maybe we can all descend on you - hee hee. Can't wait to meet you and see some of your spheres and other artwork up close!!
katie59, anyone of you would be welcome to visit my garden anytime and also see the garden spheres that I make. I would wait until spring to see the garden. then the hostas and other deciduous plants with be up. right now I have my seedling hosta hybrids going, in my basement. with the spheres I'm working on. if anyone is interested in outdoor art. James Kelsey is a few miles away. he does metal art for cities and corporate buildings. ( Tacoma, Auburn, Bremerton ) to name a few. he has a lot of his artwork on his property, I just made some pedestals for my spheres that I'm going to exibit at his studio, he asked me if I would like to do it. nice compliment. I never intended for this hobby to go this far. I just wanted to make some spheres for my yard and trails, where I have been planting. but my personality is such that when I do something, I have to keep making it better and better. kind of like the hosta hybridizing. I couldn't just collect Hostas, I had have some that I could call my own creation. but as long as I'm having fun doing it, I'll continue, Jim
Oh Jim. I'm going to take you up on that. Maybe I can come visit your garden and we could go look around at the art at James Kelsey's. What do you think? You tell me what time of year would be good. Maybe April? Or earlier?
I would love to hear more about your hosta hybridizing, too. I don't know much about hybridizing in general, but it's pretty awesome to think that you have your very own creations.
Thanks, Jim!!
Katie, April is good. by then all the Hostas will be up and looking good. and I'll have have done my spring cleaning. I know most anytime will be okay to go to Kelsey's . he should have a few more creations finished by then. Jim
I want to go to! Please, pretty please! We can make make it a field trip! Rach
Jim - you rock. It's on my calendar. Rach, because your my friend and I like you, I'll tuck you under my coat. Jim and Jim will never know . . .
Rach, of course, you're welcome. Jim
Katie,
You better get a bigger coat unless I figure out how to transform myself into a fairie between now and then!
I love the image of K walking along, 4 legs out the bottom, and rachier face poking out between the buttons -
And here is a picture of Katie and Rachier sneaking in together - the disguise is so good, you can't tell which end is which - http://www.cats.hampshire.org.uk/horse2.jpg

Laurie,
I love it!
Katie- So who's the head and who's the a** we better figure it out so we don't trip!
I dunno, maybe they need someone else to go along-after all, horses don't visit nurseries by themselves too often.
Guess I'd better come along, too, to guide the horse. ;)
Seriously, I've read about Jim's hostas and I'd love to see them along with the spheres. Would that be OK?
Susy- between Katie and I we will definetly need a handler or two or three! Can you imagine the head see's a gorgeous varigated hosta while the a** see's a beautiful shiny sphere, horse hair everywhere!
People that read this thread that are not from the PNW must think we are all nuts! Must be the rain :0)
It's the spores, the moss spores...
Let me know the when you plan on going, so I can put in for it at work, and I'll hover on over. Love to see jim's Hostas and both Jim's art work. Been trying to get over there.
Susybell, Tilly, the more the merrier, Jim
Its a Date
It's a party - Jim, you should have known we'd find a way to turn it into a celebration!! This will be so much fun.
So, there are days when I use my head and there are definitely days when people think I'm an a__, I'm sure, so let's just play it by "ear". hahahahahahahahahahah. uh hum . . . somedays I just kill myself.
Can I come too? I am very good with horses and I have all the tack!
