I planted russian sage this summer for the first time and loved it. I was about to cut it back like the Mexican sage, but I swear it looks like it has buds on it! Is this true?
If so, when should I cut it back if it starts to get to big?
Russian sage
I'd probably wait until spring to cut it back. If you cut plants back now and then get a warm spell, it could trigger new growth which is much more easily damaged by cold.
Thanks. Sometimes in my despiration to garden and haste to "clean-up" I have, in fact, cut back too soon, only to have new growth come out and then freeze.
Weather here in GA is very unpredictable. We usually go to the Zoo on a January day that's in the upper 60's to mid 70"s (even 80's one year!). Then I lose my early spring blooms almost EVERY year because of a frost on April 15th! That is our frost date and we have had frost on that day specifically plently of times.
Then there's the dreadful HOT Summer: either sever drought (this year=20 inches below) or 95% humidity.
I'm starting to wonder if I REALLY like gardening? Of course I do. I just can't quite grasp what it is that draws me so.
I got some GREAT gardening items this very day!
