Newbie - I got to thinking about the 1958 snow storm you mentioned and I came up with these pics from the past. The first is a pic of our car next to a snowbank in February 1958. Eleanor
More Snow Photos!
I am really enjoying all these cool photos, everyone! Pixie - love your snowy tree! That is a lot of snow you've got there!!
Cool ice/leaf shot, Victor! Nice marshmallows, Burn!
Bebop - were the squirrels able to find food??? Nice shots! No birds were out and about today....I bought some suet cakes at Lowes today...
Eleanor, is that a '57 Chevy? What a cool car! Your river photo is pretty too! That snow plow and I must share a birthday!! LOL
Cool shots, Eleanor.
Eleanor, it must be so nice to have that river right behind your house. It's a great photo. The plow shots are interesting, too.
DonnieBrook, the squirrels were under our bird feeders getting sunflower seeds that had scattered. Also, we are surrounded by evergreens and they eat the cones all winter. They are doing fine.
Thanks everyone! Louise - I think it was a Pontiac, but not sure!! I'm not up on makes of cars, just snow!! Eleanor
You're up on the makes of snow?
Yes, Carrie, I know all about every kind of snow there is!! LOL I know all about snow that is fluffy, packing snow, big snow flakes and small snow flakes, and of course sleet!! Eleanor
p.s. - I know all about snow storms too - there's noreasters, Alberta Clippers, lake effect, getting hammered with snow and just a dusting!!
Forgot one - blizzard!! Eleanor
Funny, Eleanor!! LOL
I guess blizzard covers Nor'easter.
Eleanor, those old plows, brings back memories, like you, I know all, the ins and out of snow. I remember those big snowbank, they were higher than the school bus, almost touching the lines. I think Pixie had mention being able to touch the lines, that was true in our area too. Bebop as always, very nice pics.
This was near the end of our last storm, which was 2 days ago.
I remember the winter of '69. The snow that year was horrendous!! The snowbanks were so tall that we could see the traffic signs.
Then, I remember a storm in '99 or was it '00, when we had to have a backhoe come and dig us out. But that was just one storm then. I think that this winter, so far, has been the best for memories of winters past.
I can't remember the year either, but I recall having to have a payloader come down our very long driveway in Conn. to haul away some of the snow. There was nowhere to put it any longer and we were trapped. I just enjoyed being stranded and making cookies. LOL
There's a very funny line (teehee) in my article on Xone Envy coming out in February about different kinds of snow. I didn't include Nor'easters because they wouldn't have fit with the sentence and it's not really a kind of snow, it's a kind of storm, wouldn't you say?
xx, Carrie
Kind of storm, kind of snow - it all ends up in the same place - in the driveway to be shoveled. I was just being funny (or trying to be) to your comment about knowing makes of snow!! About noreasters - not all noreasters are blizzards and not all blizzards come from noreasters. Blizzards can come from lake effect snow expecially if you live just east of Lake Ontario!! My brothers used to snowmobile up in the Tug Hill Plateau and were coming home one night and called my dad and told him they couldn't make it home cause they had run into a blizzard. Dad told them to keep driving slowly and they would drive out of it in a few miles and they did!! Another kind would be a white-out that comes from blowing snow. Eleanor
Ohhhh .....
dangerous stuff, Eleanor!
Man I hate it when I see a glaring error i forgot to fix - the article's on Zone envy, not Xone Envy! And yup, the stuff can be scary. x, C
If you are talking about white-outs, yes they are scarey!! Years ago my uncle got caught in one and hit another car and the elderly couple in it were killed. And also i forgot about the time i was driving in an April snow storm through a section where the road was lined by tall evergreen trees. The wind came up and snow fell on my windshield totally blinding my vliew. The last thing I saw was a curve in the road sign so i stopped the car and the idiot behind me slammed into the back of my car. We didn't call the cops because we were out in the middle of no where and I wanted to get my car out of there cause the visibility was terrible and big trucks use that road a lot. Bad choice!!! He called his insurance company and told them a whopper of a story (he was driving too close and hit me from behind) - told them I driving erratically and drove another car off the road also. There was another car in the ditch further up the road but had nothing to do with me - probably had the same thing happen that happened to me and he kept driving but ended up in the ditch. Learned my lesson - always call the cops and get them involved and get witnesses. The guy was nice to me and asked if anyone was hurt and damage was minor so exchanged our info and got off that corner of the road. And Amy, there are people out there you can't trust and how do you know who they are unless you are cautious with all strangers?? Wow, the trouble this guy caused me and he seemed like a nice guy to my face!! Eleanor
Yikes I'm glad you and yours are OK, Eleanor. Snow is scary stuff. It's nice on the ground in the correct beds after you're done planting bulbs, LOL, but not coming down in shovelfuls when you're out in it.
xx, Carrie
looks like it might rain,,,,, x, C
Amazing photo of the snow, Al! Where do you come up with the ideas to take so many of the shots you take?
Al, I see don't see any snow in the first photo! the dumb one, Carrie
It's all snow - you are seeing each flake for 1 second of it's journey - quite a twisty route.
That's a cool one Al!
I love your snow photo Al! I couldn't figure out what I was looking at, at first. Now that I know, it's so cool!!!!
Ohhhh, so it's like a really loooonng exposure? Aren't you guys glad I'm around to ask the stupid questions? Now that I know what it is, it's perfectly clear! x, C
Nice shots Al. I like the first one a lot. We're in for snow tonight.
Is #1 just a sepia-colored filter or something? I. obviously, know nothing about photography. x, C
First one is snow on a white pine, taken at night so the light on the building makes it orange.
Oh.... shows how much I know. Well I knew it was snow, and I knew it was a pine tree, lol.
xx, C
Al, isn't it time you had a one-man exhibit somewhere? You have an amazing collection of really interesting and good photographs......!
