Marilynbeth..............I can put out 20 peanuts and if I don't get right to the window with my camera the Scrub Jays and Steller's will have gotten them all.

This Towhee flew off with the peanut.

Adel,

LOL! I try to make putting out the peanuts in the shell the second last thing of feeding the birds (smearing the nutty pb on the old wooden post is the last).

Sometimes, before I go out to feed the birds, I hear the Jays making noise and I guess they're trying to tell me to feed them with peanuts. lol

And then, later in the day I hear them making noise and I guess they're saying "hey! bring some more of those peanuts in the shell!". (even tho I have shelled peanuts there too) lol

Marlton, NJ

Thats a good one; thanks adel.

Hebron, KY

Adel,

Thanks for posting that ! It is "a good one"! ;-)

Yeah! Hope all goes well.

Thanks for the link Adel! I hope the eagles do well. Mr. Wonderful was on his way to our little local town (pop. 600) and almost ran off the road after spotting a Bald Eagle in the tree top. I've seen them here but only from a very very long distance.

Here's a photo from today-it snowed a little last night and then warmed up so the birdies were taking advantage of the spa. It's supposed to snow a little more tonight and then get much colder.

Nice pic DMurray! I know they really appreciate that heated bird bath!

Nice pics adel! Especially like the Stellers.

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

On Thursday, I was fascinated by the multitude of Great Blue Herons lined up along the river bank, all with their heads buried in their feathers. This photo was taken at 700mm. May I introduce Manny, Moe and Jack ...........

Adel your little quail , are so sweet. The birds seems to enjoy their lunch..
Dmurray Love your birdbath, but so does your Little birds .Look at the face of the one in the water, on this side of the bowl, cute expression. Is that, the heater under the bowl? That's a first to me.
Rose, Dh made the roof on my platform feeder. I'll post a picture on the feeder forum.
A chickade flew in as I was taking the picture of the roof.

Herons do a surprising amount of their feeding at night - it's quite common to see them roosting through the day.

Debnes, I have the Olympus E500 and I love it. Still waiting for the 300mm lens though.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks GP! That's exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for here!! I am leaning strongly toward the 510 being the one. Magnes thinks so too.

So far mine has been terrific....the 510 should be even better. I am a fan of Olympus, and have had great luck with mine, but some people may feel otherwise or may have had problems with theirs, so I really hate to recommend anything nowadays. Just hope whichever you choose it turns out well. The Evolt 300mm lens was due out in October, but I have it backordered and am still waiting...that is frustrating.

Brainerd, MN

I have missed a lot of posts this past week! Here are a few from the past couple of weeks. Still fascinated with the Brown Creeper. I can always tell from the way it flies to the feeder what it is.

Interestin Dove pic Deb, the blue pebbles showing up in the shadow. Love the Cardinal, it looks to be protecting all those berries! What are they?

Sybil, really good shot of the Downy. Nice capture with the flying finch too!

The Great Blue Herons look like they are imitating the rocks linth! Camouflage maybe, would eagles get them? Funny pic of the Bald Eagles!

Our feeders were just loaded with birds this morning, while it was snowing, until this guy swooped in and spoiled the party. Had to leave hungry tho, I think the deer/turkey fencing we have around the newly planted trees/feeding area gives the little guys some protection. The hawk had to avoid the fence at the last second, allowing his meal to escape. Then he perched on the feeder for 3 or 4 minutes looking for anything left. After he gave up and left there was at least two juncos that came out from under the brush pile and made their escape. Not a good picture of hawk but have to take our pictues through our living room window. Can anyone ID hawk? From our guide it looks like a sharp-shinned. Thanks

Bob

Depends a bit on the size of the table it's standing on, if my guess is right, the bird is fairly small and I'd go for Sharp-shin.
