Please help me ID this plant

Manila, Philippines

I have these two plants for 3 years now and still do not know what they are. Friends say it is a kind of Ginseng but after spending hundreds of hours on the internet searching for different kinds of ginseng I still can't find anything that looks like them. By the way I'm in the Philippines.

Looks like Jatropha podagrica http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2445/

Ayrshire Scotland, United Kingdom

I think Ecrane is right, but here in UK we grow this as an indoor plant, we think of it as a Euphorbia Fulgens, but could be wrong about that, I know if you break the stems or leaves, it drips out a white milky juice and you need to wash your hands as a lot of folks have an allergic reaction to this milky stuff. good luck. That is a nice plant that I have never heard of.

Extremely good point made, Chris.
Welcome j_cruz3k! Glad you found your answer. Gorgeous plant by the way.

WeeNel--I think your Euphorbia fulgens is a different plant. We don't have any pics of it in Plant Files, but here are some from Google. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Euphorbia+fulgens&gbv=2 The flowers and leaves are different than j_cruz's plant. Jatropha is in the same family though so it also has the milky sap that can be irritating.

Looks like Mexican Cigar...........check out some sites, or, Mexican Hat, I have both, but the names confuse me!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

The plant I've usually seen called Mexican cigar is Cuphea ignea (and sometimes Cuphea micropetala), this is definitely not it. And Mexican hat I've heard used for Ratibida and also for a Kalanchoe daigremontana, but this definitely isn't either of those plants either. Common names are unreliable though since people will use the same common name for lots of different plants. I did a quick search on both those names though and only came up with the plants that I just mentioned.

I'm 99% sure it's a Jatropha, and 90% sure it's J. podagrica as I mentioned above.

Manila, Philippines

Thanks ecrane3! After looking at the website you suggested I'm now 100% sure it is a Jatropha podagrica. I'm now looking at how to propagate this plant.
