im just wondering how to make my own growing solution, or where i can buy one...is there one i can use for everything or do i need special kinds for different plants. any information really.
how do you make a growing solution?
I'm not sure I understand what you're looking for here. Do you want a growing medium (dirt)? Or are you looking for a water soluble booster for your plants like compost/worm tea?
Or a fertilizer?
i worked last spring at a small green house, part of my job was to transplant baby plants into their own, larger pots...we dipped the roots in some sort of nutrient solution to help them grow...im just wondering how to make it or where i can get some..if you know what im talking about!
Rooting hormones is wht I think you want. You can get that just about anywhere. Lowe's, Home Depot, any plant nursery will have it.
ok
You're welcome. It's not very expensive either. I got mine for about $5.00 and it's lasted me a year now.
Just put a bit of your rooting hormone in another small container and dip your seedlings into that. Otherwise you'll contaminate your main bottle. :0
rooting hormones are for cuttings without roots. you say they have roots.
they probably used a solution like superthrive or something with gibberellins in them, a plant growth regulator, or growth hormone
Lens123, can you be more specific?
I know what kapr is talking about. I helped at a nursery and they do a blend and then soaked the seedlings with the solution after transplanting. I was told then that the ingredients for the solution used was purchased from a Coop. The solution allows the seedlings to developed stronger roots and grow at a fast rate .
If I could only remember.... I could use that information now.
velmansia, here is a link to some info on plant hormones. the hormones are not fertilizers though. and they all don't neccessarily have the same effect on all plants.

Len123, thanks for the info. Is the cytokines mentioned the same as in aleve and aspirin, and if so, can you feed the plant with one of those pills?
probably, but i'm no expert and i don't know what else might be in there or how much.
It is my understanding that the hormones create a chain of events that is also balanced eventually by the opposing hormones. here is a link wheren they use growth regulators to actually slow down the plants so they endure drought better, etc.

Aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid, which is related to salicylic acid which is produced by willow trees, and willow water is used by some to help root cuttings (although I don't think it's as effective as rooting hormones like 3-indolebutyric acid). And the active ingredient in Aleve has some slight chemical similarities to 1-naphthaleneacetic acid which is another rooting hormone, but I'm not sure if it's similar enough that it would be helpful to plants or not. Personally I'd stick with the things that were designed to be used on plants, although a little aspirin probably wouldn't hurt anything.
kapr, for what you are doing, ("we dipped the roots in some sort of nutrient solution") you're beyond needing any rooting hormone.
As someone said above (Len?) you are transplanting seedlings that already have roots. What you want now is something to help with staving off transplant shock as well as encourage growth. You can easily meet that need by using diluted fish emulsion, kelp, etc. And yes, even Miracle-Gro and/or SuperThrive will also be helpful. All of these items are easily available at garden centers/box stores and you'll see great success with any of them (although I prefer and recommend the fish emulsion and kelp!)
Let us know how things work out for you.
And by the way, WELCOME TO DG!
