Foreston, MN

i just got a lucky bamboo, will it flower? and should i keep it in water, stones, or dirt?

I've never seen this plant flower. I have some that has been growing in a jar of water for 3 years. Some folks grow it in soil while others have it in pretty vases with pebbles, glass chips & water.

Here's the Plant Files info for Lucky Bamboo, which yes, is actually a dracaena:

Here's the one I've had in water for 3 years, don't know why I haven't put it in a more decorative container with some nice stones or such!

And, these two jars/vases contain dracaena I bought at Wal-Mart last spring ... it originally was potted in soil but was not doing well, some of it died so I pulled the rest out and stuck it in water where it still sits.

I had one for about 12 years and it never bloomed. The plant file says the flowers are white or nearly white. My book says they almost never do as a houseplant.
