my peace lily's flowers died!:(

Foreston, MN

i recently bought a peace lily, but about 2 weeks after bringing it home all of its flowers started to die...(around november 25th), so i snipped them off...but the leaves look fine and healthy.
is it just the end of their flowering season or is it me?

i think you may be right about it being an anthurium...i looked at your links and i think it looks more similar to anthurium

I would get it out of that red foil, too. It needs to be open on the bottom for drainage.

The red foil looks nice but the plant does need to drain after watering. You can poke holes in the bottom of the red foil, and sit it on a saucer so the water can drain out. That way you can still enjoy the look of the pretty foil and the plant will be happy too.

it came in the foil, but i will take it off and get it a nice saucer!

I noticed that you're from MN, so we're neighbors and likely growing our plants with 'nearly' the same amounts of reduced light during the winter.

Don't be fooled by the tags that state anthuriums are low/medium light plants. I grew them for years without blooms, and not until I moved them just a couple of feet from my south window did mine have blooms.

I also grew one right in front of a bright east window, and have one at work growing a couple of feet from a very bright/large west window that have (finally) bloomed, too.

The ones in front of the south and west windows in particular, have been in almost constant bloom for months.

My feeling is that the vendors place too much emphasis on anthuriums (indoors) needing humidity, and not enough emphasis on their needing abundant light!

i think it is doing ok now...i can see new baby leaves growing...no new flower buds yet though, but that will happen in time!

I agree with all the info you have been given as to the care of your plant, but the light mentioned is good to the extent that they need lots of light, but if sat beside a window that gets hot summer sun magnified through the glass, the leaves will suffer sun scorch, they also like misted from time to time, dont leave the pot sitting in a saucer of water or you will get root rot, your plant will flower again and grow lots of new leaves, so give it a half dose of liquid plant food in the water say every second week till it really grows well then full dose after that, they flower better when the plant is almost filled the pot before you re-pot it again, good luck. Mine sit a couple of feet from both south and west windows and have never suffered from sun scorch - they have, however - finally bloomed abundantly with that light!
I do agree w/WeeNel that they would suffer sun scorch if placed directly in front of the window in full light.

I agree as well that they like to be misted - although I never mist the leaves of mine during the day as the water droplets would cause burning with the strong light they're receiving.
I do mist the 'trunks' - (the exposed roots) of mine.
