I found these in my friends garden, but haven't a clue what they are.

From such a close-up picture it's hard to tell, but it could be some type of Sedum.

(Zone 7a)

That's what I was thinking too. But it is hard to tell. Any chance of a pic farther away?

agree, looks like sedum, how tall/wide?

sorry i think this is the only pic i have, it was grown outdoor as an annual, and is about 1 foot across and 4-6 inches from the ground.

But if it is a sedum and she doesn't dig it out, there's a good chance it will come up again next spring and she can share with you. This years stems will die and they can be cut off. Next year when the stems grow up, pieces root easily.

If you're still not sure what this is, you could try posting it on the ID forum to see if you have better luck there

It looks a great deal like Sedum kamtschaticum: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/873/

yes i think it is sedum...thank you all!

It also resembles Joesph's coat, too. I have a great deal of Succulents and Sedums, and many have rosettes and colors do change with heat and light, so yes, I have ones similar. For more tips to identify, how thick are the leaves, and does it bloom and have plantlets or what looks like hairs or roots under arms (branches) there is so much to tell to see sometimes.
