I recently bought a zygocactus- just in time for christmas! Well anyway, when I got it home I noticed that it had dropped several buds, which I removed from the bottom of the pot. I thought it was just from being moved, but now, as new buds are coming out, they are dropping off too. What causes this?

zygocactus
You have guessed right, these plants dont like being moved about either while in bud, or in flower, also remember, your new plant has been moved to a completely new environment from where it was before, so it has probably went into a bit of shock, over watering is another reason for this happening, as is in too much direct sun, like right at a window where the rays cause dehydration on the foliage, they need a lot of light, but not magnified through a window onto the plant, they dont really like a dry heat either so try find a cooler more humid area for the plant, I let the soil on mine almost dry out before I add any water to the pot and never let it sit in water at the roots/saucer or the roots will rot away and the foliage will just drop from the pot, I also mist the foliage in between watering's to help maintain some humidity. But maybe it also just needs time to recover from it's recent move, so leave it for a few weeks to see if it stops dropping buds, if it continues, then take other actions, but dont move it daily or you wont know what site is best for it, plants can take a few weeks to get over a bit of shock and these plants are extra sensitive, once you get everything right, they grow and grow, so good luck. thanks! that was very helpful!
Your welcome Kapr, hope your lovely plant settles down soon so you can relax and enjoy It, best wishes. WeeNel.
