What happened to the search bar?

I remember there used to be a downloadable general search bar but I don't see it when I go to general search on the website.

The one that would show up in the top right hand corner of your screen in that pull down search site menu.

Are you looking for the link to search for things in the forums? It doesn't show up on the home page, but if you go into any of the forums you'll see it in the top right corner of your screen.

No, I mean the search bar you can download so you don't even have to be in Davesgarden to use it. It takes you to dg to look at the plantfile for the plant you searched for.

That's not a DG thing, it's Google or Firefox or something like that. Try using the forum search...I know it's been discussed before on here so if you can find the thread where people were talking about it that should have the link for where you would go to download it.

Hmmm...I feel like I know what you're talking about captmicha. Like the google search engine you can have embeded in your browser toolbar. I feel like maybe I had a dream about it once, but I don't know if it ever exsisted? lol Did it?

I love that search, but that's not what I'm talking about. In my browser window, at the top right I have a google search field, where I can type anything in and it will search google, no matter what page I'm on. I think that's what she's talking about. Maybe, maybe not. I'm going to bookmark the link you gave though, good idea.

art...I think you're talking about the thing I was talking about, Google has a toolbar that you can download and the search is part of that.

Ok, I'm not crazy. Here's a link to a thread I read a loooong time about about a PDB (back when it was called that lol) search bar available for download to your browser. The link at the bottom of the thread doesn't take you to the place to download it though, so I wonder what happened?

That is one thing that is sorely missing here. Good search functions. If you find it, please post it otherwise the above is all we've got.

Do you guys have this google search automatically attached to your browsers? or did I download it as an add on? I love it- this is the search I use for everything (usually opening up another tab first, so I can keep my place)

IE doesn't come with it, you have to download it. Not sure about Firefox though, maybe they include it.

I've got it on Firefox but it doesn't really get into DG well. You'll end up with a ton of hits.

Equilibrium is right the general google search is just too general, the link provided shows the information on DG and is more concise, I had been looking for that search bar too, thank you for pointing it out. I did bookmark it this time.

That's exactly what art_n_garden linked to, it's a part of the Google toolbar and you download it from that link. But now you've confused me...since you posted a screenshot of it, that means you have it so I'm not sure why you need to download it if you already have it?

Is that what you're talking about, CaptMicha? I don't remember if it was on DG's tabs or not.

Go to the link I posted and click on Install Google Toolbar. I believe it will ask which buttons you want, with the main feature being the search box. Hope that helps.

But I also posted a link to a thread about the Plantfiles search box (further up) that I swear used to exist. I will dmail dave about where it went.

I already have the Google toolbar. That's how I was able to do a screen shot of the Google toolbar.

I'm asking where the download link went on this site where you could add Davesgarden to that list so you could search from there. Not directly through the website.

Well, I don't see that at all. So it sounded like you could have added that PF Search to the circled portion that CaptMicha circled. Cool idea.

I'm confused. How are Mozilla and Firefox different? My computer says that I have Mozilla Firefox.

Yeah, I have no idea what he meant when he said the two were different, mine says the same as yours.

I think Mozilla and Firefox used to be different several years ago when that other thread was active but now I think they're the same.

There was a time when they were different applications. I used to have Mozilla because that's what was used by the person who set up my old computer. He said although Mozilla was a little bit more complicated than Firefox, he knew Mozilla better than Firefox as that was the browser he used and wanted me to go with it in case I had a problem and needed to ask a question. On this new computer I have Firefox which I picked specifically because it was supposedly more user friendly than Mozilla but I just learned they are now one and the same these days.

I think I understand what you want CaptMicha. You want the google toolbar already at the top upper right corner of the browser to be able to just scan DG instead of all of google. I don't think we have that capability any longer.

Maybe Dave or Terry or Ecrane3 would be willing to make us one using the link below?

I usually just use the general google, since we always seem to land at the top with the plantfile entries, and I don't have to go digging.

Sorry If I'm adding to the confusion :) That is not my intention at all. I know how frustrating it is to not be able to get others to see what you are talking about. most maddening :(

Ok, so we've decide what Captmicha wants and that it used to exist. The problem is where did it go. Oy, that was rough.

I forgot I was supposed to be dmailing dave, which now I have. I asked him where it went and if it's still possible to download somewhere. Hopefully on Monday we'll get an answer!

I changed away from the google search because a got a lot of complaints about that. Therefore, I developed what we have now.

I'm not going to make any changes to search for a while. When I do make a change, it'll be to go back to the original search that we had (I'll have to program it again, of course, to make it snappy)
