another plant ID :p

Moscow, ID

Hi,
My mother grabbed me a plant and i have no idea what it is. There was no label on the pot saying what it was. Any info would be great so i can find what i need to do to make it grow. Forgive the bad shot of it, it's dark in my living room so i had to resort to a flash.

Looks to be a Schefflera: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/716/

This plant will need bright light to thrive. You mention the room is dark. Can't tell from the picture, but just so you know, a Schefflera will need a substantial amount of light.

That is a Shefflera Arboricola. The green version. They also come variagated.

Yes! They do like bright light, BUT--above everything else--DO NOT over water this plant. If it gets too wet, it will start dropping leaves.
This is one of the easiest of all pl;ants to have. Totally care free. I keep my big one outside all summer in good sunlight. Then bring it in and it has to fend on it's own with the best light I have to offer. It always does fine!

Hi, is this the same as an "umbrella tree?" I have a couple about 6' tall the leaves are same but span about size of beachball with stems over a foot long to the trunk which is barky and beige? (I know, nice professional terms, eh?)

Yes, the common name is Umbrella Tree. Here in Florida we can grow them in the ground and the leaves are large! This one started out as a house plant in a container back in 1975!
