My husband said his grandmother used caster oil on her plants when they began to look sickly. Also a friend of his at the local YMCA said he used it on his Christmas cactus to get it to bloom. Is it true? If this is true, how much should I use?
Caster Oil as plant food
Only garden use I've ever heard for it was to repel gophers and moles. Since it's an oil I suppose you might be able to use it similar to horticultural oil to smother insects on plants, but I can't think of how it would have any other benefit. You never know though!
My personal experience has been using it to repel gophers--I sprayed tons and tons of it on my garden in a fruitless attempt to get rid of them, and I can tell you while it didn't seem to hurt my plants, it certainly didn't appear to make any difference in their health, growth, etc so I'd be somewhat skeptical that it would do much.
