That's funny Pirl!
Water Cooler - 3
Yeah, the 13 little Burdens... funny!
My mom was the 15th little burden!
You serious, Victor, 15? Wow!
When one of my sisters got married years ago, her married name became Matto (our maiden name was Pink!). After finding out the sex of her first child, a boy, some of us urged her to name him Tom - Tom Matto - didn't fly, though.
Yes it's true. I have first cousins older than my Mom!
What about Otto Matto?
or if it's a girl, Laundra...
My sister was born on Christmas. The weeks leading up to her birth, my parents thought 'Holly' would be a nice name. Well, she was born and my parents told the nurse that her name is 'Holly'. The nurse looked them square in the eye and said, "You want to name your daughter 'Holly Wood'?" Wood is our last name. D'oh! They named her 'Winton' instead.
I have 8 brothers and sisters, I thought that was a big family, not quite 13-15! My youngest sister was an aunt the day she was born.
A friend from childhood had a daughter born in spring but named her Holly. Then came another daughter they wanted to name Merry but changed it to Mary. You guessed it - their last name is Christmas.
Cute Harp! I'm sure there are a few more good ones for Wood.
I'm glad the daughters of President Bush and his wife weren't named Rose and Blueberry.
Our last name was Wright. Can you imagine? "You may not be wrong, but I am always 'right'!!"
And your Mom found Mr. Wright!
Back to the pigg thing. I had to reset my password at school last night and the question to answer was - "the first and last name of your first girlfriend or boyfriend". I would have probably drawn a blank if "we" hadn't just been talking about it!
I give out a door prize in my class every semester and this semester it was one of the pumpkins from my neighbor's yard. The student who won it was really happy to get it, too. Tuesday night she told me that she had used the pumpkin to make pumpkin pie. How cool is that?
How nice of her to do that and also to let you know she enjoyed it.
Very nice.
Mmmm, pumpkin pie. Uh, Cat, now we know what your password question answer is. I guess it's irrelevant considering we don't know the password. I don't even know what we're talking about.
Me neither - and I started it!
Doesn't matter - I love pumpkin pie!
Sue - you and you sister were "Maiden Pinks"? How nice!

do you have any in your garden?
i am always looking for "amethyst" cultivars.
; )
I have two 'Amethysts'. Both shrubs - Symphoricarpos and Callicarpa.
i've seen pictures of the berries on those shrubs, Victor - do they flower too? due to my incredibly limited space, and my even more limited budget, i never really look at shrubs much. But some of your pictures do make me see the appeal!
Sadly, there are a lot of amethysts that don't appeal to me. There is no rose of any kind i want to grow - no matter what its name is. There is an amethyst sea holly i really want and a centaurea amethyst that i like. PF lists an amethyst parrot tulip, but no pictures and i have never seen an "Amethyst" tulip. i wonder why. There is a Dorothy Hamill, a Hilary Clinton, and a Barbra Streisand...
(looking thru PF, i think my favourite name is: Orchid 'Ho's Lovely Amethyst'
Phalaenopsis)
My friend probably grows that orchid. On the shrubs - yes they flower, but it's not much. The stars of the show in both cases are the berries.
Amy, I do happen to have some of the "antique" or "old-fashioned" light pink Pinks. I never thought of my name with those before! I love the pinks, they came with the property when we bought it, as did:
Lily of the Valley, old-fashioned yellow iris, 2 hydrangea trees, blue-eyed grass, yellow star grass, black-eyed Susans, blue flag iris, a barberry bush, wild lily, road-side daylily, quince, hot-pink peony, "antique" lt. pink climbing June roses, common aster, bluets, high-bush blueberries, lilacs, wild geranium, Jack-in-the-pulpit, older varieties of white and pinkish-purplish tall phlox, wild columbine, blue and white violets, orange and yellow hawk-eye, comfrey, crown vetch, hairy vetch, bird's-foot trefoil, . . . . . . I think that's all!
i think that's more than i have total!
nice bonus to come with your property - is it an old house?
BTW, i was kinda making a joke - about growing flowers that share your name - since Sue said her maiden name was Pink, she was a "maiden Pink." And similarly i am always looking for plants that have "amethyst" in their name. (Yes, i grew purple and white amethyst flowers this summer...)
When i was younger, some of my friends and i had a lot of puns like if i was in a good mood i was amy-able etc...
Cat the Memory Pigg??
My good friend's daughter was born around the holidays and they were going to name her Noelle. Then they realized, given that their last name is Bowes; this would not be a good idea!
If Otto Matto married Ms Pia, he could be Otto Matto Pia.
I always felt sorry for the girl I went to High School with whose name was Suzy Pickup.
I once had an intern whose name was Krapp. Try living with that.
In the mortgage field we ran across odd names almost daily. The most surprising was a man of Chinese heritage who had the last name of Yu and the first name I'd get in trouble with if I dared to type it but it's pronounced to rhyme with Duke.
Another one was for a man with the surname of Hiyaskya and he was a pilot.
I knew of a chiropractor named Dr. Hammerfinger!
When I was a kid our dentist was Dr. Shotten. Talk about fear!
We have a Dr. Doc, Donald Doc!
See you later. I'm off to Boston for a college Bball double-header
I went to high school with a girl whose last name was Hoar.
Amy, actually I have plants with names for all four of us - Black-eyed Susan, 'King Henry' viola, 'Becky' Shasta Daisy, and 'Katherine' tall phlox. What are the odds of finding all those?
Dave, don't let the wind blow you over on the way there!
Sue - I have tons of names including a daylily named 'Geraldine Dean'. One day I saw a wedding announcement and a Geraldine had married a man named Tom Dean. They had an unlisted phone number but I found his mother and sent her a piece of it to give to the couple when they could plant it.
that is really neat!
There really was a fellow listed in the Vancouver phone book as Brock L. Lee. sounds like a perfect name for a DG member.
My junior high ballroom dance teacher was named Betty Wigglesworth. Our parents all made us take the lessons so we'd know what to do at the Cotillion Dances. LOL
Update on the latest burglary......The detective finally called, wanting to come pick up the hacked-up bike lock chain to get fingerprints. I had to tell him that my DH had thrown it away after a week passed. We had our safe installed today. I feel better already! You gotta love solid steel!
My favorite name in HS was a kid named Haddi Sadaddi.
i saw a show recently where one of the producers was listed as "Maria DiDia" which i think is lovely.
Met an adorable young man this fall who was volunteering at a plant sale - he was so sweet, spent almost an hour playing with our new puppy. What I really liked best about him was his name - Forest Green :)
