I was very surprised to hear this called a Christian site. To me, it is a very friendly and civil site concerning gardens and gardeners, run by an administration is involved enough to realize things are starting to get out of hand, quick enough to make the needed correction, tough enough to send someone away from the site when necessary, and sensitive enough to the needs and wants of the members & subscribers to make upgrades to the site a very regular intervals. And Dave provides a great example to all of us.
This is the first and will be the only garden site I am interested in visiting.

Gardenweb gets all this attention?
Marie from WI ... Well said!
I never thought of this as a "Garden" for Christian values ... but rather, "human" values. I applaud Administration for keeping all the threads in check. I have seen personality clashes on a couple of threads, just stemming from differences of opinion and misunderstanding the written word of the posters andI know that discussions regarding religion and politics can get out of hand rather quickly!
This site is not meant for controversy, but rather for friendship, learning and sharing. I am mainly interested in gardening and even though I spend most of my time on only two or three forums, I love that there is a large selection to choose from. On occasion, I do"visit" some of the non gardening forums and have learned a lot from reading different posts on some of them!
I guess this site in a way is a Gardening School ... Dave is the Head Master or Principal who has to keep us all in line! Great Job Dave!
Hurray! Toni mentioned Dave's Garden in her column: http://zanesvilletimesrecorder.com:80/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071210/NEWS01/712100311/1002/NEWS01
Hi Guys, Well......
The paper must have a new person doing the web news, because the original article in the printed paper has the whole paragraph I wrote about DG, including data on plant files, bug files, forums, and how great the site is and everyone should go look, etc.
Also, they dropped a few words from the sentence about buying books. I give up.
I tried--I really did! :o)
Toni,
Not your fault I understand. I have a friend doing an article for me in our local press here and he's having a terrible fight with his editor who wants to take out all the cute quirky bits which will make it an interesting read! Oh well that's what we have the Internet for I guess.
Ciao, Kaelkitty
Isn't it funny how some over in that paper's articles forum are calling the DG members who've posted in the article's thread spammers? They just don't understand how people love this site! LOL
Hi Gardenwife,
Boy I'm glad I saw this! I had no idea the article was still being discussed on the forums! (I don't spend too much time reading forums--I'd never get anything done! LOL)
Just for the record, here's the original paragraph from the article: "Dave’s Garden at http://www.davesgarden.com/ A gardening community in itself! DG has 300,000 members, according to their homepage information. Hi Guys. Of great value are the Plant Files compiled by gardeners from around the world. Over 36,000 specimens have entries, with close to 140,000 photos–a treasure trove of information that’s just a click away. Another good resource is the Bug File with 4,500+ entries and over 3,000 photos of insects. Wonderful gardening articles cover every subject you can imagine and, for a paid subscription to the site, you can participate in more than 200 forums with gardeners from every walk of life. "
It really is too bad they truncated your original paragraph, Toni. But, word will get out, one way or another. :)
That was a very nice, Toni. Thank you for writing that :) *&*&%% editors :)
What a happy ending!
