Gardenweb gets all this attention?

http://zanesvilletimesrecorder.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071126/NEWS01/711260307/1002

Somebody should point out to her that she left off the best and largest gardening site of them all - DG!!

:)

Done.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I just did, too !

The more the merrier. :-)

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I actually posted a comment on the site rather than email the writer. Both methods ought to get her attention.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I did it too Dave!!! BEV

Very nice revclaus! Hopefully all this will prompt the author to make sure to include us next time!

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

I sent a quick email, too :)

Got this email, but I don't see the correction. Am I missing something?:

Dear Gardening Friends--

The newspaper has corrected the error. Please visit the link below to see the article in its entirety. The websites I listed were more for shopping for garden stuff than garden information.

http://www.zanesvilletimesrecorder.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007711260307

Thank you all for bringing this to my attention.

Cordially,
Toni Leland

I got the same response !

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I think she's waving the proverbial white flag. But she is still probably missing the point that DG has far more information about where-to-buy anything garden related (i.e., Garden Watchdog, PlantScout, Garden Products and Gardens.com's Go Gardening) than just about any other gardening website ;o)

Here's the response she sent me earlier this AM, then later the same email response as sent to Hyblaean. Disappointing!!

Sharon, thanks for your note.
I did, indeed, omit Daves Garden, but not intentionally. And now I see from the internet version of the paper that all they printed was the list of websites!

That list was a sidebar to a full article on shopping for gardeners.

I had Dave's Garden on the original list, but transferred stuff to my laptop for holiday travel and, well, you see what happened!

Thanks again.
Toni Leland

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

well she is still getting letters :o)
Got one from me as well :o)

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

Here is the letter she sent me
Hi Robbi,
Thanks for your note.
Unfortunately, the paper took liberties with the original article and broke out the catalog websites into a sidebar. I'm not a happy writer at this moment.
I intend to do a piece later in winter about the resources available online to gardeners. Dave's Garden will head the list.

I'm interested to know how you found my article online. Do you live in Zanesville, Ohio?

Thanks!
Toni Leland

I did respond by explaining how I found her (I work for a search engine called Chacha and I found it through there). Will keep you posted if she gets back in touch.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I got the email asking how I found her article...did I live in Zanesville? haven't answered.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We must all have "relatives" in Zanesville, right?

I just wrote to them, too.

True that! If there's a gardener in Zanesville , it's all relative!! ;0)

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Poor child. She was just doing her job. Guess this is one of those, Welcome to the real world, experiences. Never know when you are going to get blindsided.

Been there.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I just received her email and replied giving the DG names of our Ohio friends and telling her we are world wide.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I got the same inquiry about how I found the article. Poor woman, she's probably paranoid by now !

Who knew that DG was such a force to be reckoned with !!! LOL

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Let's hope it spurs her on to do an article on DG.

It would make an interesting article all of its own, how she was bombarded by DGers from all over the place!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

NoH20 (Candy) is only 45 miles west of Zanesville so my excuse is possible and plausible. Do we have Zanesville subscribers that could continue the writing campaign?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

If I could offer a slightly different suggestion: what if we all contacted the garden writer(s) of our local or nearest metro newspaper?

For one thing, this poor woman can only do so much for DG from Zanesville OH. (And she can probably only take so much of us before her patience wears thin *grin*)

If each of us looked up the phone number or email address of one or two regular garden writers in our area, and contacted them about DG, it could turn into a slew of articles across the coutnry. Just pick your favorite feature that you love the most and tell them about it - your enthusiasm will be infectious!

Denham Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

I could put one in my blog on myspace.

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

Here's what she sent me
Paul,
The newspaper took liberties with the article and separated the links
to catalogs into a sidebar. I wasn't intending to list all the garden
sites--that's an article in itself!

I'm interested to know how you found the article, since I'm in Ohio
and you're in Michigan.

Thanks,
Toni Leland

Denham Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

Friends, of course.

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

I don't buy her response.
I'm the garden writer for our local paper; my editor would never change the content as much as she claims.

She just didn't do enough research or check her facts.

One thing for sure DG got her attention.

I wrote:
Hey Toni, One of the member's of Dave's Garden read it and told us that we weren't included :) we decided to introduce ourselves. It probably was overkill, but we meant well.

in response to her last "how did you hear of me" email- yeah, she sounded pretty defensive. All I wrote in the first message was:

Your article was wonderful!! You forgot the best garden site there is though- Dave's Garden. http://davesgarden.com/

Know we blindsided her, but she's being kinda off in her handling of it. Must be a very small paper. I don't think she would write a positive article about us now. Terry has the best idea. I'll pick a few people locally and blow sunshine where it doesn't. That approach will probably get us farther.
and, This IS the best site

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

She just wrote me:

"You can't IMAGINE the amount of e-mail I received over that omission! LOL

As I said, the article had a different focus (or so I thought)

Thanks for responding,
Toni"

I apologized. I wouldn't want to be ganged up on either. Hey, evidently we are a force. Who'd a thunk it? There were only 10 different members (not including admin) who wrote on this thread- that's one HECK of a silent majority if she was inundated. I'd love to know the count on how many wrote in. Anyone else want to ask her?

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Hyblaean, I just happened upon this thread, perhaps many others (currently 454 views at the top!!!!) just clicked on her email instead of typing a post here?! That'd be a lot of email!!!!!

Denham Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

Not me.... lol

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Perhaps if she is so into gardening someone *hint hint* could offer her a free subscription to Dave's as a way of saying thanks for hearing us and sorry we overwhelmed you but as you can see we are a closeknit.....

Well blah blah blah. You get the sweet idea! :) If she'd ever used Dave's a little she would never have forgotten to list such a cool site so perhaps she'd love it to?

Just an idea, no offense intended at all.

Denham Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

That's a great idea! That would sure change her mind.
I just can't afford it. I'm struggling to keep my membership, while I wait on my appeal for disability. But, maybe someone else can.

Carol

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

Tir_Na_Nog, that would indeed ;D
It would still be cool to know how many actually did write her or the paper. It's like getting a better deal the more people order on a co-op. Not sure what admin could do with it- other than start a grassroots pr department like Terry suggested, but I think it's interesting.
Alot more interesting than my anthropology paper anywho ;>

edited to say: Great idea!! That is a really smart idea.
edited again to say: it won't be me either- Christmas is coming- how 'bout admin?

This message was edited Nov 27, 2007 2:21 PM

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

I was hinting it be admin actually. :) YOUR idea for a grassroots pr dept that's pretty neat!

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

I can help pitch in :o)

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Well, she was bombarded again, because I wrote that DG is more than just a gardening website. That we are family!!! And if we don't have the answer printed, it will be soon...all one has to do is ask..:)

I wondered why we couldn't just say that we read it here on DG. Especially if she gets a subscription, she will see this thread. :) Always best to be honest and upfront.

If she writes me back, I will tell her I heard about it on DG. We do stick together...this DG family.

Blessings,
Kathy
