What are your DG and NE Forum stories??

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

It's interesting to read your paths leading to here. I actually started out in GW and found it cold and non-communal. I actually don't remember how I actually found DG, but promptly signed up. I liked the format and the ease of posting pics. Initially, I spent my time in African Violets and dabbled in a few others. Then our Dave requested this forum so I joined up with him and a few others. It's been home since. I also spend alot of time in the Winter sowing forum.

Jan, you have piqued my interest and I am also going to go check out the cottage garden forum too.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

I like the cottage garden forum, also, but NE keeps me so busy I don't visit it much. I want to do cottage - as in the old pictures you see with hollyhocks and delph's - but haven't gotten there yet.

Thankyou, Candyce, looks like it was snowing off and on all night, we have quite a bit more of it now - soon, I'll have to cut channels through the snow for my mini dachshund, so she doesn't step off the back ramp and vanish completely, as happened last year.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

OMG - how is Lotus Land coping? Soooo much snow! lol

I have a lot of fun here on the east coast. Many Americans don't believe me when I tell them there are places in BC where bald eagles are as common as robins! Or that little dogs can be eagle food. Take care of the dachshund!

(Zone 7b)

Or where one sees a large black bear hanging out on a neighbour's front lawn when one is returning from a dog walk!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh deer, I mean bear!

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

Great idea for a thread, Victor (btw, your article on hellebores is really useful)--which thread I just found because I too get distracted by my multitudinous "watched threads" and forget to check the general NE forum every day.
Anyway, first I found my way to DG after googling "garden design" in June, 2006. I found that particular DG forum, read some threads, and decided to sign up so I could post a question about a design problem I had in my front yard. The response from various members was SO helpful and informative. After fooling around some I eventually found my way to the NE forum in Feb. 07, when this ex-California girl (zone 10) realized that she really really needed some help with her new gardening zone 7. I asked a question and immediately received helpful responses plus a warm welcome from many NE "regulars."
The rest is history. . . It is kinda funny when I talk to DH about various people here as if they were close friends and he looks at me strangely. . . well, you ARE friends!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Emily - on both counts. Seems we are all hypnotized by the watched threads feature! It's a blessing and a curse.

My wife is also getting to know quite a few people by name or by description.

One thing I failed to mention in my opening post is that it has helped me make the transition to stay at home dad much easier. I am a very social person and that was a major drawback for me. My cat is bright, but he has his limits.

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

Quoting:
My cat is bright, but he has his limits.

Victor, I can just imagine him saying the same thing about YOU! LOL

I'm a dog lover and owner, but I always imagine cats as being far more discriminating.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Ouch!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

They are! And they let you know when you have disappointed them.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yeah - double ouch! Thanks a lot!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

We all laugh when I read a particularly funny post to the family. We all cheer over a member's accomplishments. We all, in this family, feel very close to our NEG family.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

In that case, can I hit you up for some money, Candyce??!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Victor!!!!!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I wonder how many posts just say Victor!!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

We have wondered that, too in the past.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Sorry Victor. I'm as poor as the proverbial church-mouse. But I have a big heart.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Sounds rich to me Candyce!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Absolutely!! Rich in goodness - counts a whole lot more.

(Zone 7b)

Didn't there used to be a cake commercial that used that phrase "rich in goodness?" Brings to mind visions of seven layer chocolate cake, for some reason.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Funny! I don't remember that.

(Zone 7b)

Maybe you aren't old enough? I used the word "neat" the other day, only to be told by someone my own age that I was "dating myself." (I love that phrase.)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

'Neat' was used a long time. We said it as kids in the 70's. I still so sometimes. 'Cool' never seems to go out of fashion.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Right on brother.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

10-4 good buddy!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Very pretty shot, 2zeus! And I too use the word "neat" way too often. To me, things are either cool or neat if I like them a lot. Dating myself too now! Who cares!! LOL That's cool!

Candyce - you Do have a big heart and I agree that you are, therefore, quite the wealthier for it!

We had some neighbors over for dinner last night, and technology came up during conversation. My DH mentioned the fun I have on DG, and I found it difficult to explain adequately to people who do not know DG the scope of it all, and how friendships can develop with people you've never seen. They were interested, but it was still a challenge to explain it sufficiently.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Recruit them! Hopefully you'll do better than Jan's invisible friend from the Spring!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Oh, I remember him -- not!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I blame him for us trailing the South Forum. Imagine all he was going to post!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Who is posting on that South Forum, anyway? Maybe it is just useless nonsense and there should be a waiting of the posts for content - no -- wait -- then we would be behind Equines. In the words of Gilda Radner -- nevermind!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What's content??

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Meaningful nonsense.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Some settling of the contents may occur.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think we're way past that, Al.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Have we solidified yet?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like 'congealed'.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

precipitated?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

You would! God night, Victor and Al.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

'God' night? Religious moment, cat, or fatigue?
