Of course you can! You were born in Queens.
I love this thread! 'Real' people post here.
No clocks. No calendars. No worries!
No sense of reality!
no shirt, no shoes..?
Pajamas rule!
yup, it's a snowy day here---jammies day!!
Hurray! I eat chocolate for breakfast when it snows.
amethystsm...oprima = press or push... (it's probably slang) but it's written on a sign in every portapotty at construction sites and nurseries here: "Oprima para fluir"....press to flush !!!
One of my sisters can speak Spanish fluently, but she learned it in Mexico,,,hence she has a huge problem communicating with Puerto Ricans, Guatamalans, etc.
Where we live, people speak "Spanglish" !
LOL - you are all making me laugh! Spanglish, no clocks, year-old calendars.....where else can you find so many clever people???!! LOL
Amy - I cracked up when I saw that someone besides me has clocks set at all different times. My poor DH......when we were working, I'd set my bedside clock 30 minutes ahead to con myself; then the clock would speed up on its own, and we'd never have a clue what time it was! Now it doesn't matter anymore! LOL
What's "Spanglish?"
a lot like Canadian Franglish
I'll bite, what's Franglish?
Franco-English?
yup---when we can speak a little French and our Quebec friends can speak a little English
FYI: 'Oprima para fluir' is correct Portuguese for "press to flow" (in this context "flush".
Spanglish is a combination of English and Spanish spoken and learned "on the street". Usually by Spanish speaking people who do not have formal education in English. Although I would assume the description would apply Vice-Versa.
- Just a guess. ☺
lol...and most of my French was learned by reading the back of cereal boxes...and everything else, they always put the French side out at the grocery stores....

Menus, in my case.
I took French honors in HS (4yrs) but I've lost most of it, I can read & write it better than I can listen to or pronounce it now. It was quite a while ago and as with all languages, if you don't use it you loose it.
I was having trouble with it in HS and asked my aunt, who was born and raised in Quebec, to help me. She informed me she could not help because they were teaching us European French---LOL
Can you imagine?? My Dad wrote a nasty note to the school and after that I was excused from French class...
She's was right, Candian French is different. In France it would not be considered correct grammar with business/ legal matters and would have to be 'translated' in order for the docs to be accepted. It depends how important the docs are & who they are being submitted to ...
Our friends, born in America of French parents who always spoke French, had their oldest daughter fail French in high school. The teacher told her she used French slang. The parents sent her to relatives in France for a summer to work at a deli and she came back and never failed French again.
- Thats the best way to learn... immersion.
i'm sure. but since i have no immediate plans to immerse myself in a spanish speaking country, i keep looking for people to practice with... My summer class was 4 days a week, 3 hours a day which was way better than now when it is only monday and wednesday for 75 minutes each.
Thanks! I'm, uh, flattered?
I say we all start keeping our eyes open for products or anything with the name VICTOR on it, and submit photos..the one with the best entry wins an 8 x 10 glossy of Victor in his pink bikini ! (personally autographed by him, of course!)
he is a man of many talents.
Speaking of moles - i almost caught a mole digging to plant tulips a week or so ago. we've had a ton of mole problems, and by fall the garden area was starting to look like something out of a cartoon - raised ridges all over. So i've gotten used to filling in the holes - but usually i am not digging quite so much. Suddenly, the ground next to where i'm digging starts to move - which does make one jump a bit. But i was fascinated - i've never seen an actual mole. Grabbed my camera out of my pocket but no dice. An hour or so later, i'm digging a few feet away, and it happens again - so this time, i start digging too - i am SO gonna find that mole!!!
sigh.
What i learned was, moles dig a LOT faster than i do (at least with a 6" trowel...)
O well. Apparently Victor has a better method.
i was SO fascinated by the mole pic in the photo contest - what freaky things they are!
I didn't think moles were into planting Tulips! They are ugly and tough to get rid of.
A calculator too! I gotta get me some royalties.
I'd keep a mole that takes the trouble to plant tulips.
ok ok, that was awkward phrasing. i also made it sound like the mole was digging with the trowel.
give me a break - i'm doing spanish verb drills in another window (pretty well), and testing myself on indirect and direct object pronouns (i'm flunking them). spanish was going so well till those DO/IO pronouns.
ck. your hand tool supply...the mole MAY very well have one of your trowels...
Now I'm going to go ck. the photo contest pics. to see that mole...
Fortunately, I don't have a problem with moles. They're around, but the three cats keep them in check - every now and then I find a dead one in the yard. Mostly mice, once in a blue moon a rat, and a few birds mixed in for flavor!
I keep the moles moving away from my favorite plants by pouring Pine-Sol into their molehills. It's nothing anyone wants in his dining room.
I like that idea - keeps the garden smelling mountain fresh, huh?!
How nice to wake up this morning and see that Victor is so famous!! I love being part of a bunch of celebs. It's so invigorating. And challenging.
I use a granular organic product that seems to work in Vt. They just move next door! Then my neighbor puts it down and they move somewhere else. It seems to last a season or two. I don't remember the exact name, and we have used a couple of different ones. They carry it at my local garden center and one brand has a cartoon of a mole on the bag. I think it cost about 15.00 which does our yard. Pet and kid safe. My dogs can dig them out in a frantic dig. You stood no chance with your trowel, nice image though. Patti
i think that's the stuff i'm using - it is made with castor oil. (we are also making chicken wire packets for tulip bulbs.)
