What did you see on your walk?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Today was another of those "wish I had the camera" moments. We passed a neat sight that would have made a great photo....3 seagulls sitting on three successive dock pilings, all in the identical position looking in the same direction. It was a real double-take (rather, "triple-take") situation, but alas, no camera again.

Cell phone cameras take great shots nowadays. Just walked outside and took this one with my phone of two of my trees in the backyard. It's unaltered, 1280 x 960. Sun is low in the horizon now.

WC - your phone does an awesome job.......so clear!! Mine isn't that good! That's a nice shot!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

- Thanks, I just took it... my DW's phone takes better pics than mine!

Van Etten, NY(Zone 5a)

I took a walk through the woods on this abandoned road.

Great phone shot WC. How many MPixels?

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

1.3 megs VG, with video record, bluetooth, music player, instant msg and e-mail access! - blew me away what these things can do now... I love it!! I even play chess against it! hee hee! - it wins :-(☺

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yeah but can you CALL someone with it?!!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Oh, that's what it does! lol

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

WaterCan - I'm curious about the internet function of those phones. Do you lose a signal often or how does that work?

Bebop - love your abandoned woods road shot. Do you come across old cellar holes and stone walls on this road?

I'm cheating with this next photo......I didn't take it on my walk this morning. This gang of 17 white ibis's stopped by for a visit across the street from our house.......Al, if you see this, you'll love the notorious condition on the road....as I mentioned.....ugh.

I have a cell phone with internet function and never lost a signal when i used it. I could check e-mails and do the Instant Messages---once, I was checking e-mails in my Yahoo account and had to sign in. DH was here at home playing euchre at Yahoo Games, when I signed in, he got booted out of his game...lol..he still doesn't know what happened!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

He he he... I won't tell him three Gs!

I think it's time I went out for a walk. I can't remember the last time I did!

... right after my nap...

I haven’t lost a signal since I got the phone DB. The technology is different. In fact I had to change to a new phone because the technology for my old phone was going to be discontinued in February ’08. I was used to my old no frills phone & didn’t want to change but I had no choice. The phone company started charging me extra to remain on my old phone past August. The only upgrade that didn’t have the internet functions was the smallest & the buttons were very hard to press/find. So I got one with easier to press buttons and it came with all the bells & whistles & it’s lighter. Sometimes ya ‘gotta go with the new Tech. or else… – look what happened to 33 rpm!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Did something happen to 33 rpm??? LOL

That's cool to know that you don't lose the signal. As a snowbird, it would be helpful to access the internet when we're going to and from.

33 rpm--lol--I have a couple old Elvis 33's kicking around here somewhere---

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Save 'em! They may be worth something someday! lol!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I see it DB - you have ditches too - aren't you lucky ;)~

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I have a big ditch right here on my property. I want to hide it... or make it beautiful, but people keep throwing their trash in it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Check the Trash to Treasure thread!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Okay, will do.

I went on a walk today. It was cold, dreary and windy. It's sunny out now. Go figure.

Do ya think these guys like red bows?

definitely festive!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - are there little trees under there somewhere?!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yes, Victor, but you wouldn't know it.

Another picture from my walk today... The water sub-station is disguised as a house.

It was cold, dark and grey on my walk. This was about 11:30 am. The bike path is a great place to go walking. It goes for more than 40 miles.

There's a small swampy area near the bike path that people just love to throw their trash in. One of these days I'll round the community up to clean this little area that's home to a bazillion little critters.

Wow - a 40 mile bike path! That's great. I like the phony water station.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

More like a phony house. Victor, this bike path goes all the way to Yonkers. I usually poop out after 10 or 11 miles, though.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Harper - what interesting shots you got on your walk! I find it fun on our walk to add the new dimension of looking for things that would be fun to share with my DG friends. It looks like you had fun doing the same thing. That bike path is such an awesome asset to have in a community. When we lived in Connecticut, my DH was one of the leaders in getting a Rails-to-Trails bike path through our community. We loved walking our dogs on it. Like the one you showed, ours had vistas of swampy areas that always had lots of neat birds to watch, etc.

Today on our walk we saw something we've never seen here before. We passed a very tall tree (Norfolk Pine, I think, but I'm not sure) with several of the white ibis's perched in the very top of the tree. We tried to get a good shot of them by using the zoom lens, but the shot did not come out very clear. I'm still posting it so you can see the birds, but please excuse the poor quality of the shot.

Here's another shot of a different gang of ibis's clucking around another area of the neighborhood. We counted 33 in this gang.....I promise to find some other kind of birds to show you...enough with the ibis's!!

Now here's a shot of the calm, peaceful River this morning.....just seeing its different faces every morning starts my day off right! Some days it's very busy and choppy with pelicans and seagulls and feeding frenzies galore, and other days it's like glass and serene with dolphins and manatees......always a treat for us!

just one more shot of the River.....

It's very pretty Louise. My walk was cold and well, cold. Your photos make me wish I was there. Your ibis tree looks like it's a Christmas tree with huge ornaments.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Beautiful, Louise!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Victor and Harper! I wish I could send you some warm serenity!!

Harper - you're right ....the "ibis tree" does look like a decorated Christmas tree, doesn't it? I hadn't noticed that until you mentioned it. We used to have a lot of those tall trees in the neighborhood - especially along the river, but most of them were lost in Hurricane Charlie. I think this and one other are the only ones left. We always see a huge hawk in the other one that is still around. The large birds really like the vantage point way up there. "Look out below!!!"

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

You wouldn't catch me standing under that one!

Fallston, MD(Zone 6b)

i took a walk through the woods behind our house the other day. had my camera along so i took some pics. lots of shrooms on stumps; this one looks like the man in the moon, green cheese and all.
enjoy.
