What is still in bloom?

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

which prompted me to go around to the front and see all of theses blooms! The lily was given to me by a friend. I sat it under a rose and it stayed alive until it got hot in August. It died back and I thought I would just plant it in case it might come back next year, lo and behold, it came back, didn't get tall and then bloomed today! LOL!
Other plants are yellow mini rose, mallow with some frost damage on the leaves, blanket flower, ice plant, and the pink rose is the Fairy. The summer sun washes it to white, but this time of year it is a wonderful pink. edited to add that there is also a hollyhock I cut back, it bloomed on the ground by a pincushion flower.

Love them, Makj! I might have to find that Sunset Point.

And Cactus, that Mallow is perfect.

Here's a nice Blue Blizzard morning glory from this morning. It's growing in the grow room while we have rain and wind outside.

I never counted because the cultivars can be cross-pollinated making an infinite number of possibilities.

Beth,

WHAT do you grow all your MG's on? They take up so much room. You must have a big yard. Plenty of places for the MG to climb on.

I grew Grandpa Otts for the first time this past Summer. My God! ONE plant climbed half way up my house!!! There was a tall trellis for it to start on, and then it just continued on and on!
The other one-- "Blue Rocket" (??) did almost nothing. It was on the East side, though. Lots and lots of sun until about 2PM.

I love all your pictures! I have a new one to try out this next Summer. Got seed from someone in trade. It is a hot pink-something...

Here's my G-Otts! The Rose below it is about 5' tall. It is a "Sweet Surrender"--the most fragrant Rose!

Oh my goodness!!! LOL

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Gita, you are talking about morning glories: Ipomoea purpurea
The ones I am showing here are morning glories Ipomoea nil

They are different species

There is a BIG difference in size! purpureas get huge!

Beth,

SOO? What are the main differences? They sure look like MG's! If you had not told me.....

How tall do these grow? What do you usually grow them on? Got a picture a bit from a distance? I'd like to see.....

Thanks, Gita

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

They ARE morning glories...there are just hundreds of species of morning glories.
Here is one Ipomoea nil that is in a 5 inch pot.

Here's another link of a plant with spiral support, still quite small.

beth what about cameo elegance?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Cameo Elegance is a very small, compact vine with smaller than usual leaves that look like variegated ivy leaves. The blooms are on the small side as well, but you get lots of them.

(Zone 7a)

*bump*

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I'd sure love to see more people in the US growing these inside as house plants. They are very important in Japan, almost in Japan what the rose is here. I understand they have morning glory festivals over there.

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

I was wondering the same thing as Gitagal. When I plant the old standby Heavenly Blue it grows so large. Our season is long and I usually have to cut them back several feet. Planting them as houseplants. How wonderful. Now where do I find the seeds?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Heavenly Blue is Ipomoea tricolor, also a very big species and not recommended for indoor gardening. Send me a sase bubble envelope and I'll send you some nils (the small ones) to try.

But PLEASE- PLEASE put on the evelope what you want (nils or small morning glories).
I get so many envelopes with no idea at all what people are sending them to me for, and it takes me time to track down the person and ask them what they want!!!

It is in the mail, with NILS written on the outside flap so you won't have to search for me! Thanks so much, Joyce

I remembered this thread when taking this photo. My house forms an L toward the southwest, so this flower bed is very protected from the cold at night. The snapdragons bloom all winter there.

Byndeweed, thanks so much. Got the package, you were very generous! I was only expecting one packet!

She is very generous. I got more than expected, too.

Cactus, it's amazing what will bloom where, isn't it? Very pretty.

Orlando, FL

I have alot in bloom...very mild winter here...it was 80 today. My yesterday today and tomorrow is in bloom. Hibiscus, Roses, impations...several colors, petunias, mexican petunias, just a couple flowers left on the 4 O'clocks. I have broccoli, onions, big boy tomatoes, yellow jubilee, yellow pear, lemon boy and beefsteaks tomatoes. One lonely little lettuce plant and a califlower. The orange tree it full and touching the ground in spots, proping limbs up in the morning. Oh I forgot the golden salvia. Not much compaired to what the spring will bring. Here is a picture of the yesterday today and tomorrow...one day I will have to look up how to start this thing from cuttings is it way higher than the house now and needs to be trimmed.

Is it spring yet? I'm seriously in need of more color.

Thanks, Moofiepoo. (Love your name!) Very pretty.

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

We have had a few days where it got up in the 50's in my front courtyard. Now a cold spell and it only got to 40 today--just briefly. Feb. is usually the coldest and then Spring will be around the corner! Just reading Moofiepoo's post makes me think I need to visit FL for a few weeks!

Orlando, FL

Well here is a few more flowers in the yard as of today to keep you thinking of warm balmy breezes.

Now you're showing off! LOL I can't wait for spring! Ahhhhhhhhhh............

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

I haven't read this whole thread....but I will. I just wanted to post about my little Johnny-Jump-Up Violas (Tri-Color Violets). Every time the snow melts I see their cute little blooms in the backyard when I take the dogs out. I can't believe they still have blooms on them, I really don't know how this is possible. I moved them this fall to the back by our new patio. They had been in a much more sheltered place and they never ever kept blooms this long before. I don't understand it, but I'm really enjoying it. I can't wait to see how they do this spring....and how many volunteers spring up. I'm just hoping I don't have to cut them back. I also can't believe I haven't lost them to the bunny rabbits, they are a favorite of theirs. So, here's three cheers for the simple little flowers that are sometimes overlooked! :-)

(Zone 7a)

Never call a someone a "pansy" if you're mad at them. It's a compliment! ;-)

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

Yes, and I have always thought of people in terms of flowers. Like those who can't take the heat (meaning stress or if it is 90') are pansies. But I am careful who I mention it too because they misunderstand.
