That sounds perfect quietyard. Wish I was there...my brother is in the hospital in Tucson and the weather sounds lovely.
Pixie I am sorry to hear your brother is in the hospital. May I ask which one? I imagine he would be enjoying this weather if he could get outside for a bit. I always feel better when I can get out in the plants. Truthfully I would rather be where you are for a real cold Christmas season! I was just rearranging and moving some plumeria into a sunnier spot in the back yard. I am new to this kind of plant but know they like the sun, just not our summer sun full time!
He's in a V.A. Hospital, should be going home on Friday. He was admitted the night before Thanksgiving, his birthday was Thanksgiving. What a way to spend it!
I am still envious, especially now you mentioned the plumeria! (grin)

Yes - sorry to hear about your brother, Celeste. Best wishes to him - especially since he's a vet.
Cool link, WC - thanks!
Thanks Victor, he has Grave's disease and diabetes and was having a bit of a problem. Maybe now he will take his thyroid medication like he's supposed to.
Sorry to hear about it, Celeste. We just had a family member with Grave's disease and it ended up cancer of the thyroid so it was removed. She's back to work but lost a great deal of weight - too much.
Glad to hear your brother is going home soon! I hope he was well cared for. Veterans are so precious to this country. My plumerias have never bloomed but I have hope for next year! They grow very fast here. I have a small yard so grow them in pots.
Please post photo's when they bloom, we would love to see something "tropical" while we sit on our frozen tundra! LOL

C'mon Al - that's glass!
Either way - the beach is closed
Yeah - you'd freeze your glass.
Al - another interesting photo.....can you give us the context??
quietyard - I'm down here in zone 10, and my next door neighbor has several plumerias on the line between our yards. I didn't realize that some are evergreen and some are deciduous. The evergreen ones are in full bloom here now. We pass one on our walk every morning and my DH picks up the flowers that have fallen to the ground and puts them in a tiny vase for me. The owner of the one we see on our walk plans to trim his, and is going to stick a cutting branch out for us. He said we just have to stick it in the ground and it will grow. Can't wait. It gets so hot here in the summer, I'm wondering if yours would do ok out in the sun there. Of course, the heat where you are is a different kind of heat than here. What color is yours?
Looks like he already did.
quietyard - sorry - It just dawned on me that you have cold temps there that would prevent you from planting your plumerias. When I first read your post, I thought you were concerned about the heat......ignore my blond comment!! LOL
We are all blond on a relative scale now aren't we ;)
That ice is formed by calm cold weather at night when ice will form and then by windy weather that blows it to shore.
Great photo, Al! I hope all are well here. I'm too pooped to say anymore! Have a great night all!-Kath
Hiya, Kath!
I agree with you. I'm usually too pooped by 10 PM to post, too! That's usually the time I am setting my TV timer so that I can fall asleep.
Al: that is ONE GREAT PHOTO!!!!! Great angle. Great lighting. Awesome composition. One would think you are quite the professional photographer. Keep 'em coming.

Sounds raw, Celeste.
Feels raw Victor. DS works in this weather, our neighbor has a contract with L.L.Bean & Hannaford to keep the parking lots and sidewalks clean and ice free. DS works at all hours of the day and night in inclement weather and then gets to sleep when it clears off. I think i'll build a fire in the fireplace and make a nice pot of soup for when he gets home.

Sounds like a great idea - great mom!
Pixie if they ever bloom and when we get a digital camera I will attempt to post a picture. DonnieBrook mine are supposed to be yellow/white but since they have not bloomed yet who knows!! People do grow them in the ground here. I have a friend who has a huge one that is planted close to their house near a wall. I guess you just have to find where they are happy. I have pretty good success with brugmansias that I grow in pots but the really cold weather we had last winter killed the one in the ground. I will stick with the pots! I can move those around a bit and cover them. We are actually getting sprinkles today and big rain forcasted for this weekend. Believe it when I see it!
There is talk of a snow storm on Monday with "plowable amounts at the coast" meaning inland(me) gets double!
I look forward to your snow pictures pixie. I must enjoy a real winter thru all your posts and pictures! :)
Jaws?
Maybe it's a frozen sail from a boat!
50's today. I just killed a mosquito a few minutes ago.
It's sad to see the goldfinches have finally migrated. At least I'll save some $$ on seed this winter. But the juncos are filling in for them (on the ground), and the cardinals are making more regular appearances.
Temp 45.3°, Wind WSW 3.6 mph, Baro 29.76↓, Rh 66%, Dp 34.5°
Thick overcast all day, Temps in the 40's
Some say when the Oaks drop an unusual amount of acorns it's a sign of an unusually wet winter to come. I have an unusual amount of acorns around here... Snow/Rain/Ice 4/Monday?
I say when they drop an unusual amount - get out of the way!
What's the weather going to look like this weekend for my NYC trip?
Cold.
