Last one was getting a bit slow. Supposed to be warming up. Rainy and mild on Turkey Day. We're coming from here:

Today's Weather in Your Garden - 7
Darn slow weather.
It is raining now - a very dry fall here. The Appleton Christmas parade was tonight - I watched it on the TV instead ;)
At our house we have tofurkey, but the turkeys roaming in my garden today may dissuade me from my 20 years of being a gentle vegetarian!
44 this morning and light fog. DH actually went on my 5:30 walk with me. That was nice, I asked him since he was up today. But there's something about a walk by yourself. Time to reflect, etc. Peaceful way to start the day.
39 and a bit foggy here as well. Deb, you must need a strong flashlight at that time.
Maybe Deb has an auto head lamp, like me.
Nice way to start each day, Deb.
27 here and the snow is still on the ground! It should warm up today, but I wonder if it will be enough to melt this white stuff.
We still have a layer of snow as well, I'm hoping it melts-just to get those last few things done! Deb-that does sound like a great way to start the day. Typically that is the time I'm getting out of bed to get my oldest son off to school. We live in the middle of nowhere, so he has to get on the bus at 6:20. YIKES!! I'm a night person myself, but life has altered my existence. Unfortunately, I am still a night person. It isthe time that I paint, so I'm still up late and getting up early. It's hard on a body! lol! I LOVE weekends!
I wouldn't think that anyone would make Victor gasp!
I REALLY must get out more and enjoy my neighbors! Kath ~ you sound so interesting!!
Ah yes ...
the weather in my part of town is:
Still snow on the ground ...
A freezing fog that is descending rather than ascending ...
Drizzle and cold and dark, dank clouds ...
And, darn it all! I have to do the grocery shopping today
simply because I WILL NOT go shopping on Friday
Brrrrrrrrr ........
Hey Candyce, Thanks and we should meet! No fog on this side of town. I already went shopping yesterday, but I have to go into Keene today for "those last few things". We still go all out on Thanksgiving, despite no meat, and I'm actually a vegan, so all I make is vegan as well! Not many people would volunteer to come over(the cashier yesterday asked me if the tofu I was buying was gravy-I told her no it's tofu and she said "eeeeeewwwwww!") but I'm a good cook!
Flowerhead - look at it this way.....you will probably be alive enjoying life long after that cashier who is grossed out by your tofu has kicked the bucket! LOL
My favorite part of any meal is the vegetables. I could be vegetarian in a heartbeat, but not my DH! So we try to strike a decent balance. Fortunately, he loves vegetables too.......but as a side dish!
Right now it is 79 degrees in my garden. I am feeling really down.....I posted in August that our house down here had been burglarized, but luckily my DH's new mountain bike had not been stolen when they walked right past it to go out the door. Well..........it was stolen last night from our carport, even though it was locked with a bike chain lock (hacked off). I feel so invaded and just plain mad. Guess we have to beef up security and convert our carport into a locking garage. Ugh. They left a different bike in the grass between our house and the neighbors. The downturn in the construction industry here has caused so many more burglaries. Thankfully, we weren't hurt and they didn't come into the house this time. Twice in 3 months is just too much! Our friends' car around the corner was broken into just after we arrived, and they stole her duffel bag of swimming clothes. She had just competed in a triathlon, and her triathlon stuff was in her bag. She really wanted to keep that memorabilia since this was a one-time event for her. This neighborhood has never had problems until the last few months and now there just aren't any safe ones left. The gated communities are hit even harder than our "old Florida" neighborhood.
Thanks for letting me whine. Bummer!
So sorry Louise, that is just terrible.
Thanks, Deb. Ugh
Wow - terrible news, Louise - so sorry. Please try not to let it dampen your Thanksgiving. Get your neighbors to start pressuring the police and DA to get more aggressive. That's no way to have to live.
Thanks, Victor. Part of the problem here is the shortage of police. People don't want to spend tax dollars on teachers and police and firefighters. The ones that are here are stretched very thin.
That's FL in a nutshell - people from elsewhere (esp the NE) pay high taxes their whole life and opt for FL for retirement to get away from them. Double edged sword.
Temp 54.1°, Wind SE 0.2 mph, Baro 29.76, Rh 70%, Dp 44.6°
Overcast today, got some last minute planting and transp. done.
- That's Lousy DonnieBrook, sorry to hear that. My DW has never been mugged in NY/ NYC, nor have I. The second year we lived in FLA she got mugged, it's the only time in her life she has ever been mugged! A car stopped while she was exiting her car in front of the complex and an arm stretched out and grabbed her bag which was on her shoulder. The complex was in a "good" neighborhood. She was dragged on the street with the car for about 8 ft, luckily the strap broke! She did suffer some cuts/ scratches and bruises but luckily that was all, her blouse was a bloody torn mess. She reported it & looked at mug shots for 2 mornings with the detectives but she didn't find anything.
We lived on the west coast for awhile as well and we never had any problems there either. I don't believe there are any good neighborhoods left & it really doesn't matter who lives in them, 'everybody' is doing crazy things these days...
Good luck with your transplants, WC. You braved today's dank and miserable weather! Applause!
So sorry about the theft, Louise. My Florida friends haven't suffered theft except by the insurance companies. The rates have many leaving the homes where they thought they'd stay for their retirement.
Could have been worse, WC. Looks like Spirea 'Ogon' there! Nice color - further along than mine.
Thanks pirl - it wasn't so bad here - just a little dark and damp. ;-)
- I have a friend still in Fla that had a real hard time finding insurance this year and when he did it was 2x what he paid last year for less coverage. He also says they have a bad situation with the water, the population is expected to increase and they don't want people digging their own wells either.
Yes VG, planted one in the front and one in the back, love the colors, the pictures don't do them justice - they have nice pastels.
WC - how dreadful for your DW. Thankfully, she wasn't hurt worse! It does seem to be a problem everywhere. It makes me feel down to face how our society seems to be breaking down.
Thanks, A
rlene - We, too, have terrible insurance issues living so close to the water. But on that score - it's a choice we made, so I don't grumble too much about that or the high property taxes. That's just part of it. Frequent crime is a different story!
donnybrook, I am so sorry about the break-in. It's the feeling of vulnerability and being violated that is the real concern. Since we moved to Massachusetts we have had a ladder stolen, a tool box with old tools, we even had a fake security camera stolen! Luckily we have never been harmed, and no damage was done to our property.
We are all glad that you were not harmed.
We formed a neighbourhood organization and lobbied to have our streets turned into cul-de-sacs. We also insisted that the police presence increase dramatically.
As for the taxpayers . . . maybe we all need to be reminded every once in a while that you get what you pay for. . . .

Hey, Michaela - let's meet half-way, say Worcester, and have a bread pudding together! Neither my dh or dd's like it - it's one of my faves also!
The BEST breadpudding I ever ate was at the Grouse Nest in 1978. The Grouse Nest is a restaurant on Grouse Mountain overlooking Vancouver. There was no snow that year and the ski resort was desperate for business. They offered a deal - free gondola ride to the top of the mountain (where the restaurant is), and a four course dinner for $9.99 (well, it was almost 30 years ago!).
Anyway, we went with friends and have cornish game hens and lots of other wonderful stuff - but the best part was the bread pudding; it was huge, served hot with cold ice cream and blackberry sauce! And as we ate dessert - snow started falling outside . . . it was a perfect evening.
if you go to the Grouse nest now, make sure you have an expense account!
Michaela - Good point! Thanks, and have a lovely Thanksgiving!
Temp 59.0°, Wind SSW 7.4 mph, Rh 66%, Baro 29.41↓, Dp 47.4°
Some sun in the am., clouding up in the pm. Very mild.
rain then snow all day but just a dusting
Wow, WC - we're not that far apart in temperature! It's 75 here now.....not much of a difference! Hope you all have had a nice day!!
Amazing DonnieBrook! must be all that water in the Gulf! In Fort Laud. I used to dream of temps in the 70's - only to wake up in the 90's. Ugh!! We usually have marching 'ice cubes' up 5th ave for the Macy's parade, this year it has been very mild - so far.
-Still having a nice day DB, "It ain't over till the fat lady sings!" Hoping your day is going well too. ☺
Very nice day all day, WC....Thanks!
Rather windy
Very chilly
The sun is out, so I'm sitting in my patch of sunlight in the kitchen.
The breezes are gusting up to about 14 MPH
The temp is nice right now at 29*
Off and on sun for most if the day
35 and very windy - what a drastic change from yesterday!
Temp 41°, Wind N 15.2 mph, WindChill 25.6°, Baro 29.85,
Rh 40%, Dp 18.5°
Beautiful sunrise, maybe because of the ice crystals! Mostly sunny & windy today.
33 days 'till Christmas, (strike that... "The Holidays"). ☺
75 and a bit muggy here. My DH and I planted some seeds in a seed tray - he planted more mammoth sunflowers and I planted a few things I've gathered just to see if they'll come up - royal palms, gerbera daisies, pink & white daisies, blackeyed susan vines and some seeds that I deadheaded for the Dunkin Donut shop we stopped at on the way down here. (can't remember what the plant was, but I know I liked it! ) LOL
Louise, 75? I came here to say it is 12 degree's right now and I see 75. Got any salt for the wound? I wish it was about 20 degree's wamer here and I'd be a little bit happier!
Let us know what the mysterious Dunkin Donut plant turns out to be.
I don't want to talk about weather anymore. I'm grumpy. It sleeted & snowed on T'giving. (pooh!) 27 this a.m.
I still remember the Thanksgiving when I was 7 and we were travelling from western NY to Canton, OH to my grandparents. Got caught in a snowstorm and had to stay in a little motel with cabins. They made spaghetti for us. We had no boots with us and the snow was so deep I couldn't walk thru it, so Dad had to carry me. After the plows got thru the next day, we were able to continue our trip. The turkey was waiting for us :) It was fun when I was 7.
Anyone for frozen lettuce?
Ugh!
Very, very chilly today with a biting breeze! It stung my face
when I took the dog outside this morning.
It was 14* when I got up - 21* now ...
Breeze is out of the NW which gusts to about 8 MPH
It is sunny and bright, though, which helps with the
heating bill.
