Hi all :o)
I am not just new to this site but also to the whole houseplant and gardening phenomena so hope that i will be back here often for hints and tips from you experts ;o)
At present I am being driven frantic by my Kalanchoe, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it and had to have it but unfortunately the garden centre had somewhat neglected it so i need to nurse it back to health thus here are my questions my fingers are crossed that someone can help.
1) the leaves at the bottom of the plant (3 in total) are starting to look rather sad and are going yellow at the tip and edges i can only assume that this is to do with too much water or not enough although these particular leaves also have quite large cuts in them.
2) my plant had a fungal infection when i bought it so i also puchased a fungal gun to spray it ....it has had one treatment so far and need another in about twoo weeks ...will he velvety leaves withstand this spray?
3) it was pot bound when i bought it so have re potted it and am not sure that i have done it correctly though i know i have the correct soil how does one re pot propperly
4) my plant lives in my living room and being in england is subject to central heating over these winter months plus a log fire in the evenings so it gets pretty hot in the room ....should i be watering my plant over the winter months when it dries out? i read somewhere that they fall dormant over the winter and should not have any water at all
Any help that can be given would be very much appreciated as it is my first ever housplant and i really dont want it to die i would be heart broken
thank you :o)
p.s if a picture would help i can upload one later its other names are felt bush and velvet elephant ear
Kalanchoe Beherensis Help Please
A picture would really help...you know the old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words."
And don't feel bad if you lose this plant; I've been growing plants for about 30 years or so, and I bet I could fill up a semi tractor-trailer with the things l've killed. It happens, but it's only a loss if you didn't learn anything from it. (And you can take comfort in the fact that at least you tried your best. After all, everyone starts out at knowledge level zero, and works their way up from there.)
I'm on my 8th Golden Hahnii...all the rest were lost to either rot or sunburn, but this one looks good so far.
Experience is the best teacher, although she can be very harsh in her lessons!
I hope someone can give you some detailed advice- I've never had luck in growing Kalanchoe. (Yet another one of my failed experiments.) The people here are super about helping newbies!
Good luck,
Marsha.
