identification help

Pilot Mound, IA

I got these cuting in the spring from a friend. His plants was quiet big and interesting the stems grow in a very contorted manner. I really liked it that is why I asked for some cuttings but when I asked what it was he had no clue. I told him that I would look in my houseplant books for identification and tell him what it was. I have looked in all my books and not found it and I have had all summer and most of the fall. So if anyone can help it would be much apreciated. If you need more specific picture like of the stem, nodes, leaves ect.. let me know.

I had looked at the philodendons in the plantfile but I couldn't find any that matched my. I remember hearing somewhere that leaves have to be symmetrical to be a philodendon does anyone no if this is true because if it is true my plant is not a philodendon. You can't see it very well but the leaves on my plant are different enough that one side is a third larger than the other side. thanks for the suggestons keep them coming.

It really does look like a Philo to me. Can you take another photo at a different angle and post it? Maybe we can tell more with another picture.

Actually as they grow the leaves will vary in size. The older ones at the bottome will be pretty big and the little "new" ones on top will be smaller.......look at mine

Here is a better picture of the leaves, and if any one can confirm what I heard about philodendron's leaves having to symmetrical let me know.

could it be a pothos? I think philodendrons and pothos look a lot a like. Just an idea

That is definitely a Philodendron. I'm not sure which one but will ask some of the experts over on the Aroid forum to come here and take a look at your pic ... maybe someone will be able to ID it for you.

It is a Philo, but in the juvenile phase it is in, IDing it is next to impossible. You mentioned that the person you got it from had a large one; would you post a pic of the larger one? If not, can you describe the shape of the larger leaves?

If I had to shoot from the hip, I would say it could be a juvenile P. hastatum. Once I see the mature leaves, I'll have a better idea.
