wondering how to remember where I put my bulbs...

Bella Vista, AR(Zone 6b)

I just naturalized 40 crocus and 25 white narcicuss in my yard. Now I am thinking I want to put out more....BUT, by next fall I won't remember exactly where this year's bulbs are and I might overlap or cut some bulbs when I try to add more.... I can take a picture when they are in bloom, but it probably won't show the exact perspective...
Oh shoot, maybe I'll just go out now and add some more THIS year!

I sometimes have the same trouble as you when I naturalise bulbs, I have to put in green pea sticks even cut in half to mark the area, but as I have deer in my garden, who dont eat the bulbs, but move my pea stick canes, I am sometimes bamboozled as to why nothing has grown where the cane is laying, yet a few feet away there are lovely blooms, it takes a while to register the deer have moved things around, if the bulbs are not in grass, I would put in some white plant labels with what you have planted till you get used to that area after a few years, remember, if you trample on your Crocus when they are just peeping through the soil, you will kill off the flower-bud, it is just under the soil till the foliage comes through. OR could you put in a couple of canes with fine twine around them to show the spot, just another idea, good luck with your planting, you should enjoy the spring flowers. WeeNel.

You know, adding at this time of the year is great. You can find some super prices on bulbs in the late fall. Try this site. They have done a super job for me and ship fast.

I just finished putting out the rest of my crocus bulbs today! It was a record warm day here in Alabama. As I was trying to recall exactly where I put the first ones back in Nov. I did pretty good at avoiding the original bulbs. I only accidentally dug up one bulb -- and it sure had some nice looking roots! It immediately went back in the ground, but I was proud to see the root growth so far.

Try the little flag stakes that gardeners use to mark where the water lines are. They work great for remembering where one planted what last fall. No animals like to eat them or move them and in the spring they can be easily pulled and used next fall. Works for me.

Oh no! My bulbs are already coming up. They are too early! I know I planted them deep enough, I had my trusty ruler and everything....
If they don't bud for a while and it stays really cold maybe I'll be OK and they can make it through January.
I wish I had planted them a little later now....

try not to worry. I bet they will be fine.

Mulch them heavily, JulieQ. It may help convince them, it's not yet time to grow.

If I mulch them, will they not get warm and keep on growin'? Some are 3-4" tall.

All my plant in my garden are charted on computer in Excel. You can chart in MS Office also.
I measure the distance of my borders and use Excel to print a hard copy where each plant is located. Each cell = 1 ft. I then type in the name of the plant in each cell. It works for me.

The last cold snap killed my new narcissus buds.

The shoots that were coming up in my woods seem to be OK so far. Even have a couple of early bloomers!

Julie, it looks like a couple are ok. Just makes ya so mad! I took digital pictures while we were planting to use for reference.
