CONVENTION ON THE ORDER OF MARY KAY

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks dee. As soon as we have a definitive idea about how many are even remotely interested in attending then the planning will begin in earnest. Of course, 2008 is out of the question. I know you are just giving that as an example and it is appreciated.

Thank you, Lou

I just didn't remember reading that. And I do like to understand Dave's willingness in backing this up. It seems like his attendance would be very important to attendees.

What I don't understand is how it could ever be an international event if he is not willing to travel outside of Texas . . . that seems very limiting.

Quoting:
if it's close enough to my location (meaning within say 500 miles)

I'm sort of looking at the "say" part. If we have a hundred respond as opposed to 1000...well, you see what I mean.

Now I'm not trying to put words in Dave's mouth...

Understood

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

I am 'remotely' interested, but I think you already have my name... All Dave would have to do (along with Trish and Terry) is form a receiving line! I'd just like to tell them face to face how blessed we are to have DG.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

As I mentioned somewhere...I met Dave at the Arlington,TX, RU in October '07.
Nicest person in the world...and we already knew that. A very young genius. I've already adopted him as my son, so you're too late. hahahaha

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Well, he can be my step-son, or half-son, or Wonder-son! LOL

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

I would come. I also would suggest when you choose a location, you consider how easy and $$$ it is to get there. There are certain airports that are much cheaper to fly in and out of. For instance, Las Vegas traditionally is quite inexpensive to get to. I think places like Chicago are also reasonable. I would also consider a central location for the first one. Maybe in the future you could switch it out to different coasts/areas. But always keeping in mind cost to get there. Not all big cities are the same. For some reason, Los Angeles seems to be expensive to get to. So considerations like that.

Gwen, those are exactly the kind of things that are at the top of the list. There is no doubt that many, many are interested in coming and meeting each other.
IF WE CAN MAKE IT AFFORDABLE.

Thanks for your input.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

This is just a first ever - we want the first one close to Dave's home for several reasons. We love the ideas but the location is going to be close to the center of Texas, at least for this first one.

Merry, Merry Christmas

I'm interested too. I didnt read the whole thread, but what about Wichita? It's in the middle of the country, it has an international airport, Century ll is the home of the Wichita Garden Show which has won awards, (and is BTW coming up Mar. 5 thru 9). It will be the 41st annual Wichita Garden Show. Wichita has many hotels. Shopping is abundant. The Arkansas River runs through downtown and is a great place to walk or run. The Museums on the River or Old Town are a great way to relax. Big Dog Motorcycles is based there. The weather is pretty good too. I can get some pics if anyone wants to see what it looks like with a blanket of snow. And there is a sports arena being built downtown.
Just post a note, I'll get some pics next week.

New idea----When/where ever its held, the public should be invited to join DG. If it takes off like a house afire, it may have to be divided up into regional meets. I can see it getting that big, but I cant see all the DG members in one place at the same time.

Thank you for your input, Lora. The more interest and information we can amass the better.

Sarasota, FL

Hello Everyone,
Is there any updates on the DG convention? Maybe we could have a water gardens convention in Florida. ;-)

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Details coming soon.

anyone home? any activity?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

hello rebecca. i think this has been deep sixed.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

wonder what happened?

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Lots of information in the posts above.
And also here:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/791952/

Bottom line: expensive to put on; difficulty in deciding on a location
affordable to many; number of people needed to volunteer for all the
work; insurance liability; responsibility for hotel accommodation contracts,
etc etc.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

WOW, talking about good reason...that is a lot of good reasons.
