We drink a lot of coffee and I have heard that the grinds are good for garden soil. Is this true?
If so how would one put it in the soil?
Thank you,
Anita
Coffee grinds,
They are good for the soil, I think a lot of people just put them on top of the soil around the plants. Or if you're amending the soil, you could dig it in along with the other amendments, but assuming the bed's already planted you can just dump them on top.
There was quite a discussion about ths subject this summer in Texas Gardening.
Seems that Starbucks will give you buckets of grounds for the asking -- but -- you MUST supply the buckets and be very regular about pickup.
I have clay type soil and it's hard to dig in, when I add the coffee grinds and really makes it alot easier to dig in (and to pull out the weeds.)
Coffee, tea, eggshells and many other household waste is excellent for amending the soil conditions AND offering feed to the plant roots, go for it, your doing the garden and yourself a big favour, dont put it all in the one place or you will alter the soil too much, good luck. WeeNel
