MAKING NEW ANGEL TRUMPETS!!!!

Sweetwater, TN

Hello all!!!! I'm new to gardening last spring was my first time!!!! So I got so
excited when my husbands mother got me an angel trumpet for my birthday.
I live in TN so when this spring came I was worried that my angel trumpet would not come back!!! Well it finally started showing it's new little leaves, I ran out
and got 3 more of diffrent colors of course. While I was at the fruit market buying
my new angel trumpets a lady told me that every year just before the first frost
she cuts her angel trumpets down limb by limb and puts them in buckets of water!! come spring time all of those limbs are now new angel trumpets!!!!Has anyone ever done this ? if so does it really work?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

yes, it works, add a few drops of peroxide to the water

oh" thank you so much!! but what does the peroxide do and how much do i use? and when is the right time to plant them after they get roots?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

the peroxide keeps the water cleaner and keps fungus at bay. make sure you change the water often. put them in pots when they get roots.

jordan thank you, I have one brug that I was thinking of cutting but wasn't sure how to root in water. really appreciate it. Hope you're having a great fall :)

tropicana, use 2 inches of water. mine are rooting now. and thanks, you have a good fall also.

I have another question, as you know my yellow angel trumpet came back this year. will the other 3 come back
next year? because someone told me that the pink, peach and white don't come back like the yellow does in zone 7?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

did you bring them inside?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I think most Brugmansias are only hardy to about zone 9 so I'd probably play it safe and bring them in.

Ayrshire Scotland, United Kingdom

Cut them back, bring them indoors, just frost free will do, so garage, cellar etc is fine, only water enough to make sure the soil wont dry out, then early spring, give a bit of light for about a week, then if weather OK, put them back outside, feed and water as usual, they will break new shoots and flower once again with that delicious perfume you can smell a mile away, Good luck. NOTACLUE, I forgot to add, that I see several yellow and pink, orange, variegated brugs around here (wish I knew the specific varieties). Plant Delights Nursery sells a few that are hardy to at least zone 7b. They dieback but come back each spring, and my Pink Insignus came back here in 7b last year also with just a little mulch. So once you've got a nice sized estabished plant that's hardy to your zone, I would think you should be able to leave it out

my dr. suess ins in the ground and left out all winter, and comes back each spring, so tropicana is right
