I think (although I'm not positive) that eucalyptus has allelopathic properties and prevents some other plants from growing under it, so I don't know that it would be the best choice for mulch. I'm not sure if it's as bad as something like a walnut tree, but I'm pretty sure it has similar properties.

true, it secretes an oil that lots of plants dont take kindly to, I had a rhododendron die under my large eucalyptus, which surprised me as these have very oily leaves themselves, but I was told that the oil from the tree was probably the cause, anyway, the eucalyptus has a wonderful powerful medicinal smell, I would place your mulch where you walk rather than around your plants, that is if you have a walk area, last resort, you could add it to pot puree along with lemon/orange peels dried in a cool oven add berries and other attractive colourful things, then give it as gifts to your friends, but you will need a lot of friends for that amount of mulch, I just pull a few leaves of the tree to freshen up my dish. good luck. hope someone can give you more positive answer than I have.
