I just noticed that several leaves on my chinese evergreen are getting brown spots with a yellowish ring around them right in the centers of the leaves. It had been outside, but I brought it in about a month ago, possibly longer. I did flush the pot really well before bringing it in, so could it be overwatering? If so, why has it taken so long to show signs? It has been in the same spot inside, in a darker room across from a south facing window. It gets no direct sun. It was in the shade completely when I had it outside. The only other thing I have done since bringing it in was feed it about 2-3 weeks after bringing it in after the soil seemed to be dried out( I stuck my finger in the soil) and I dumped the excess water out of the tray after watering. I used the same fertilizer in the same amount that I had all summer......any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks
Kristie
Brown Spots on Chinese Evergreen
Hi Kristie: It sounds like possibly a fungal or bacterial problem. I found this information when googling. Scroll down just a bit and read where it says fungal leaf spot and see if that describes your problem:

Good luck with your plant!
Yep, that sounds like it.....hopefully after removing the affected foliage it will go away! I bet its bacterial watersoaked spots.....Thanks for the help!
Kristie
You are welcome. I hope that is the correct diagnosis and you are able to save your plant!
Yes me too after I just figured out what it was!
Well, I haven't had many more leaves with these brown spots(I just removed one), but now I've noticed that some of the leaves are starting to tear where the stem and leaves meet.....it rips on both sides of the base and curls up. The leaves still seem to be healthy other than that.....There are two leaves like that on the plant, but it is still sending up new leaves. I wonder if its a humidity problem? Any ideas would be helpful!
Kristie
Can you post a picture? I'm having trouble visualizing what it's doing.
