Here is the Second Plant. This one is not doing so well and I very disappointed because I really like it. When it was given to me I re potted it because the original pot was way to small. Again I have no idea what it is and I am very new to this. If Any one can help i would be very much appreciative. Thanks I have posted one picture of the whole plant and I do have a closer picture of the leaves if needed.
Need Help Idenifying Plant Two
Schefflera arboricola: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=schefflera
Yours is probably the dwarf version: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/716/
If any one looks at this what would be the best way to take care of this plant. It has many stems not one coming out of it and the leaves keep wilting off. There are no bugs on it. I have it in a bright room and as far as watering I am watering and letting soil almost dry before I water again. But I must be doing something wrong?
It could be that your plant is experiencing a bit of shock from being transplanted. How often are you watering? I would let it dry out between waterings and don't let any water sit in the saucer. Are your leaves turning yellow before falling off? That could be a sign of too much water. I know plants indoors in winter dry out quickly from the heat in the house but I would check the soil by sticking my finger down about an inch or so into the soil to check for moisture ... if it is real wet, I would not add more water. I keep my plants on the dry side. I don't have my Scheff's inside though ... they are out on my back porch and back deck. I water once a week at this time of year but we are still pretty warm down our way!
I see the info in Plant Files for the Dwarf Scheff says to keep it consistently moist and not to let it dry out .... that is just the opposite of what I do with all of my plants.
Your plant looks pretty good to me. The leaf color is good. I see one brown/dead branch to the right side of the photo. But, the branch that has lost leaves on the left looks to have a new bud popping at the top. I know some plants will go into shock and drop a lot of leaves with just a change of location. Maybe your plant will settle down here soon and put out a lot of new growth.
Hopefully someone else will come along soon with some suggestions.
I do stick my finger in the soil before watering it and try to make sure soil is fairly dry. I transplanted the plant about one month ago. Can it take that long for a plant to adjust. I also believe the plant has always been inside. My mother-in-law had plant before me and she did not know what it was but I believe she kept it inside. Also leaves are turning more brownish color than yellow before they fall off. I have included a picture of a leaf close up. Maybe it shows better. although it is not showing the color. It is just really droopy i guess.
Thank you for helping. I appreciate it a bunch.
