Can this be done?

Vansant, VA

I was given some moonflower bush seeds. I have several so I thought I would do a little germination test. This is what I've got so far. My question is -- is there anyway I can let this grow indoors until it is safe to plant outside? I live in zone 6.

Thanks,

I can't think of any reason why you couldn't--since it's a seedling you'll want to give it good light so that it doesn't get leggy but as long as you can do that it should be fine.

Thanks ecrane !
Just in case, what can I do if it gets a little leggy?

Not much, just give it some support if it starts to flop over. Once it gets a little bigger you can pinch and prune it if necessary, but when it's still a small seedling there's not much you can do.

You want to pot it up in 4" pot and repot as necessary and let it grow in the house this winter. Do not fertilize it.
Give it light. It is so small a seedling I would try to grow it on and not dormant it. Which means you will have to provide conditions to match its preferred environment.

Even fluorescent lights will provide enough for the plant to avoid getting leggy. Just get it down close to the plant. Keep it there about 12 hours a day. Since it is so early to start plants for outdoors, you might consider finding a spot in the house and giving it a trellis, once you've put it in a bigger pot.
