Please help me identify this desease

Miami, FL

A neighbor said she had been affected by it and called it White Fly (an insect). The photos and description of White Fly don't seem to match what I have.
This has appeared on my Donkey Ears plant. I think it is a desease rather than a bug.
I have no idea how to treat it.
Can someone identify it for me. Does anyone know how to treat it?

Looks like scale. Ecrane where are you????

It's an insect, could be mealy bugs or some sort of scale. I'd take a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol and try rubbing them off.

I agree with Ecrane, because you have such a large infestation and scale insects are hard to remove, I would be inclined to actually use a cotton wool ball soaked in Methylated spirit and wipe all the foliage by holding your hand flat, place the leaf onto your palm and wipe firmly up the leaf, then the same on the underside of that leaf, then move to all the other leaves the stems etc, from the center out, you will probably need to use a good deal of cotton balls for the amount of bugs you have, but then again, you will maybe need to do this every week for a good weeks to get rid, dont forget to look at this plant very early next spring as the likely-hood of killing all the bugs this year may not be so, they are real flat bugs and legless, so they do really cling onto their host and suck out all the sap which in time. kills off the plant, watch out for some of your other plants, burn all the used cotton balls as you go along or these bugs will just move onto pastures new, you will get their, but it takes patience, but it really is worth it. good luck, WeeNel.

Are you talking about the picture in this thread or in a different thread in this forum? If it's in a different thread, please point me in the right direction, there are a lot of threads of things wrong with leaves! If it's this picture, then it's probably the same problem that jaloteam has and the same suggestions would apply.

Hi Jaloteam
I am not much of a bug & disease person but we had scale insect infestations
on our magnolia shrubs (trees?) and the Bayer systemic potion eradicated the
problem. Your picture indicates a similar problem. Take a sample in a plastic
baggie to a Garden Center with knowledgeable personnel and I am sure they
can identify the problem and offer a solution. BTW the Bayer insecticide was
$30 in case this enters into your decision process. Good Luck.
