Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - Epilogue

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Good topics for discussion Pirl and sounds like it was a great time. Nothing wrong with curling your hair, finger nail polish, make up, etc. Most women do but they don't talk about it as if it's the most important thing in their life. I don't venture too far looking like a wreck but I admit I did have to go to the nursery up the road to get more mulch one day and I was all sweaty and gross. The owner just told my DH to stop over working me!! It was one of the 90+ degree days last summer. Come to think of it I still looked like a wreck, and felt like it also, after I showered and put on fresh clothes. Eleanor

I agree, Eleanor! I can polish my nails with the best of them, but I can't seem to keep my hands out of the dirt long enough! LOL And even though I like my hair to look nice and shiny clean, I can't think of much to say about it socially. I am a Curious George and always like hearing about what other people are finding of interest to do with their time - what adventures they've had recently. Our differences are so interesting and I like to explore what it is that brings joy into people's lives.....like good books, good food, fun places, beautiful scenery, interesting creatures, tranquil gardens, madcap gardens, lovely bodies of water.....all that good stuff.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Al, I had a '75 Vega...complete with big tires, shackles, and competition stripe. Worst concept Chevy ever came up with...aluminum cylinders and steel pistons...(or was it the other way around?) either way, they started burning oil at 50,000 miles and had no compression by about 60,000...impossible to tune, and "pinging all the way". They were all the rage here as "first cars" for young people. Haven't seen one for 20 years.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

I can't polish my nails cause it bothers my skin and the same with make-up. I remember once the woman who "used to cut my hair" told me that every one needs to wear make up so they can look better. I can't even wear stage make up so I stay off the stage and in the orchestra pit with the band. (play the piano for church musicals) My nails have to be short for that any way. Oh well, people will just have to except me the way I was made and not what I might look like all fancied up!! I also wear sneakers cause of plantar facsiitis (sp?) and wide feet. I couldn't get my feet into a pair of heels if I tried - don't think they come wide enough. Oh no, I just talked about shoes and make up and finger nail polish!! I could while away the hours, conferring with the flowers, consulting with the rain..........If I only had a brain!!! Eleanor

Dale - I'm not surprised - what a piece of junk, made the Pinto look good.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i can't wear nail polish because as soon as it has one flaw (which is usually pretty darn quick), i can't stand it and it ALL has to go. But i do my toenails in the summer, and it always matches - or at minimum co-ordinates with what i am wearing.
Yes, i am an analyst's field day...

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I had one of those Pintos, the 1974 hatchback. It had Nader's smog device in it, so it created no smog, but it only got 8 miles to the gallon on the highway and 6 in the city. Can you imagine that? A 4-cylinder car with that kind of mileage? All of the pollutants stayed inside the engine, so I had to get my first replacement carburetor when I had driven only 900 miles. I was still within the thousand-mile warranty period. I think I may have singlehandedly created the gas crisis of 1975 too.

After driving the car for a few years and buying at least a dozen new carburetors and a dozen new starter engines, I was so disgusted that I sold it and never bought another car. I haven't even driven a car in the last 25 years. Talk about a souring experience.

Apropos of the messages in greeting cards, I think one of the best is the one Diane Farr sent out when her fiance called off the wedding after all of the invitations had gone out. She sent everyone on the list a card that said: "Met the wrong guy. Gave him the wrong finger. Thanks for your support."

Amy - you're not an analyst's field day cause you like to coordinate everything and look nice!! Every woman should be able to do, wear, and have her own personality. We should not have to fit into a mold that society dictates. That's what this is really all about. Life on DG would be dull if we all had the same interests, talents, and looked the same (then we wouldn't have to wonder what Victor looked like!! LOL) Eleanor

Zuzu - love that card! I'll have to modify one word in the divorce card I sent someone in the 80's:

There are two sides to every story, yours...

(then on the inside)

and the idiot's.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I bet I can guess what "idiot's" replacing.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I bet you can!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Zuzu - That is a funny story about the Pinto. You do have some different laws though that's for sure.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Zuzu!

Love that sentiment in the card.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I once saw a postcard of a beautiful tropical beach and the caption read: "The weather is here. Wish you were beautiful" . I should have bought all they had !

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I love that card too.

Zuzu, cars have improved a bit in the past 30 years. Maybe you should give them another try. ;^)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Funny, JD!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

One of my sisters bought a used Chevy Nova once, and the paint job was all faded and horrible looking...so she covered the entire car with flowered contact paper. It looked like a birthday gift on wheels. I refused to ride in it.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

oh my

my first car was a Chevy Nova

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Scary image, JD.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Bet she never lost it in a parking lot.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I locate my car in the lot by looking for the moose head on the antenna.

How long the the papering last?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I would have tried.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

The paper lasted about two weeks when summer came along...then it started bubbling and cracking...people would poke holes in it when they walked by!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Then paneling?

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

She froze up the engine on it because she never checked the oil, so she sold it.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

or did you pay someone to take it?

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I think she sold it to some kid who was going to put a rebuilt engine it...AFTER he peeled off the flowered paper !

I have seen people take a roller and flat house paint but never contact paper to a car. That must of been a site.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

With all the gross squished bugs you get on your car in the Summer, I have thought about covering the whole thing in sticky tape.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

ewww.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Gorilla Tape would be perfect for that...AND, it's waterproof !

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Who wants squished gorillas all over the car!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

JD - that card is really funny! Your sister sounds like a really fun person! Love her wallpapered car! LOL

Amy - are you feeling better? Chicken soup time??

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

better-ish. Thanks!
i turned off my alarm unintentionally, and overslept for THREE hours today, which probably helped. (Thank heavens the phone rang or i might still be asleep!)
now DH is sick.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I bet he just wants his three hours!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

; )

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Caution: imagination at work

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Sounds like you needed the sleep, Amy. Glad you are turning the corner!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

thank you!
yes, i guess we both needed our three hours...

y'know, i signed up for a tour in mammoth cave several years back. it was a long one, done only by lantern light. when i was describing it to someone, and they asked how long it was, i said,"It's a three hour tour."
we cracked up. i think i had that song stuck in my head for weeks.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Cute Amy!!

Yet, Mammoth Cave is someplace that I've always wanted to visit. So, a question, if you please. Do you 'feel' like you are underground? If I felt like I was underground, I may not have the courage to do a tour.

But then, I'm afraid of heights, too. And standing on the very edge of the Grand Canyon did not bother me at all!! Go figure.
