I don't think brave was the term I had in mind.
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - Epilogue
Easy for JD to be brave when he's almost 3000 miles away!
Next sister day actually is a pajama party the Friday after Thanksgiving. We only do over nighters about once a year.
I should copy and paste Eleanor's response
I don't think it has to do with testosterone levels, but brains!! Not all women are flakey and just talk about hair, clothes, and shoes. Those things just aren't important in my life - I don't sit around worrying about my looks and spend time fixing my hair which is cut so I can wash and go. Because I like to work with my hands and do things doesn't mean I have an over abundance of testosterone. Life is short and I want to live and leave a small mark on the world and not just be a pretty object for some man to look at. We should talk about men stuck in the stone age. (Can you tell you struck a nerve?) Eleanor
p.s. I also wear comfortable clothes and shoes!!
my bad...wasn't infering an abundance of the T word, by any means. The mentioning of "building projects" was what inspired the comment...no insult intended, rather, was meant complimentary. Primitive, yes...but was just taking liberty with the "any old nonsense" theme. My apologies, Eleanor (and others as well.)
You're forgiven! I was just speaking up for us girls!! My DH can't build or put anything together so my oldest daughter and I do most of the projects. We love it and allows for creativiy and gives you a sense of accomplishment. "Eleanor the Builder"
Nice recovery Jasper!
JD - I lean towards the subjects Eleanor finds of interest.....and I think most of the gardening gals here on DG aren't much interested in hair and lipstick and surface stuff......we'll compare creative projects and new strains of plants and backache remedies and funny things kids do and nice things to do for lonely, older people and new recipes for using what we grow and good books and movies and music and lots of spontaneous subjects that flow from our passion for nature and beauty (the real kind, not the hair kind!) LOL We do forgive you for your "flakish assumptions" though. We're not a mean bunch who holds grudges. We even cut each other a lot of slack for imperfections.
Well said Louise, and Jasper, we do forgive you, it's the kind of gals we are.
JD happens to have six beautiful sisters, all very accomplished, all talented in many ways and his entire family was raised by two very wonderful parents. I'd say they were "the best" but, like so many others, I had "the best" parents so we who feel that way are very blessed.
I curl my hair, paint my nails and still garden. I don't build trellises but Jack doesn't do cake decorating, either. In the gardens I may look a wreck but I'd never consider leaving the property looking like that.
Today's brunch was lovely and the women were talking about:
A very fancy new restaurant
A car show with cars valued at $200,000,000. - one of our neighbors was a judge
Homes for sale in the area
A late night show someone watched about the moral decay of Rome
A local master gardener and why she refuses to have "perfect" gardens
Broadway tickets
Winter
Travel plans
Places people have been to and funny things that have happened
Embarrassing moments
Dieting
A book that I'd guess is called "The Earth is Flat" - I don't think the person ever said the author but it sounded interesting.
Grandkids and funny things they've said
Dogs
Fishing
"...and a good time was had by all".
Two hundred million dollars?
Does that car come with it's own country?
That was a collection of cars - not just one!
How many cars do I get for $200 million?
Talk about Broadway tickets will remain just that - talk! Stagehands are on strike so most shows are closed.
Not "Young Frankenstein", "Mary Poppins" and a few others. The couple also has a NYC apartment and will come out for weekends every now and then during the winter.
It was a show and none of the cars were for sale. They were the ultra exclusive autos like Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini and others of that class.
I'll take good plants over fancy cars any day.
Reminds me of Boca.
If Flower shows had the same scantily-clad models that are 'essential' to auto shows, I might be more apt to attend.
Since more women attend flower shows they would have scantily clad greased up muscular men with 'little bow ties'!
I haven't liked the flower shows I've gone to - not at all.
Yes, WC - it's all the glitz. It was NOT held out here but somewhere in Manhasset.
Now that I could find fun, WC!
And a fig leaf?
- we'd better stick to car shows VG ... this could get ugly!!
Don't go to them either!
Me neither, I got my 4x4 which gets me where I want to go, in whatever weather, those Lamborghinis can't take a pothole!
- They are beautiful though...
If you can afford a Lamborghini, you can afford a pothole crew to check out your route beforehand.
LOL! - you have a point there!
I find it interesting how the conversation about the $200 million cars was followed by the decay of the Roman Empire. Did anyone see a connection?
I don't know how big fig leaves can get.
For a bunch of women that look so prim and proper we were hysterical with one story about the Roman empire but it's not DG appropriate.
The cars left us more like "ho hum".
I've watched some of those car auctions on ESPN. Never saw a 200 milion one, some a few million. Haven't had that '77 Vega I learned to drive on yet.
The $200,000,000. was the aggregate value of many cars - not just one car, Al.
Oh - probably that one then.
I was looking for a '59 Plymouth Savoy like my first car - until gas prices got so high. That was a great car! There was so much room inside the engine compartment that I could get in it to work on the car! It cost me $175 in 1969 and I ran it for years!
Virginia has a lot of those old cars & in working condition, off the beaten track ( away from the I-95), I used to see them in the car dealership lots. The gas prices like you say kept me away & the problem of 'where do you get the parts to fix them when they break down?' Good prices though...
I remember a Malibu I had that got 8 MPG. Those old cars with the oh so bad gas mileage did have comfort and a nice ride but now would rate zero for safety.
They should have been rated in gallons per mile.
Pirl's brunch discourse makes my point precisely! Lots of interesting and fun topics for the DG gals!! As to the cars, I just can't relate to putting so much money into a car that depreciates! LOL (Yeah, I know.......if you're in that ballpark, who cares about such things!)
