Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

$3.10 when I starting filling. $3.25 when I finished! Kidding - only seems that way.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

$3.29 when I was out at lunch today.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

$3.70 at dinner?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Gas was about $3.17/gal when we last filled up. EEK!

Been to many boards. Don't get alamred and keep reading. I find most people are going to yap boards because they can't get out and about. This board does not have those type of people. WHY? We work............

Most do not know:

Blood (how many time have you "nicked" yourself) = work

Sweat = work ( a normal thing)

Tears = You do the best you can do = (it did not make it)

We Have our gardens and love them..

I was trying to buy a card for my father, who will be 71 in a few weeks. He had a debilitating stroke on his 70th birthday last year.

"You're Older and Wiser" he's not that wise any more and he knows it.
"You're Only as Old as You Feel" he feels pretty freaking old, although he really isn't
"Hope Your Day is as Special as You Are" ????
"May All Your Dreams Come True, Today and Every Day" I bet mostly he dreams of being 69 again.

I settled for "Happy Birthday". some flowers.

Good call, Carrie.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Carrie - I know what you're going through and it's tough to find a card sometimes that is appropriate for a loved one who is not well. I make my own cards on the computer and then I can say exactly what I want to say. Hallmark has some good software for making your own cards. I sometimes spend hours making a card to get it just right so I feel it's even more special. I'm not sure the recipients feel that way, but I enjoy it. Eleanor

Greeting cards don't cover anyone I have any sort of complicated relationship with (ie any relative). Could they be less effusive or a little more realistic? Most people don't have Ozzie & harriet families but they keep making cards for them.

I would not be surprised if Victor's wife (or Al's) spend more time rolling their eyes than laughing. Why do I think this? Could it be a hunch from my experience?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Scatalogical?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

It was my mistake that Victor decided to immortalize in subsequent threads. Although we are not very scatalogical either.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

but quite possibly "scatterbrained" ??? LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Actually my wife does a fair amount of laughing.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

At the right times, I hope, Victor!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I was waiting for a response to that - I can do set-up sometimes too! Not at times of intimacy. Hee hee.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Whew! You had me concerned there for a few minutes.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Dave are you looking for complex relationship discussions on a greeting card??? How many pages should they be?!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

DH found this so I thought I would share with fellow gardeners!
A teenage granddaughter
comes downstairs for her date
with this see-through blouse on and no bra.
Her grandmother just pitched a fit,
telling her not to dare go out like that!
The teenager tells her
'Loosen up Grams.
These are modern times.
You gotta let your rose buds show!'
and out she goes.
The next day the teenager comes down stairs,
and the grandmother is sitting there with no top on.
The teenager wants to die.
She explains to her grandmother
that she has friends coming over
and that it is just not appropriate....
The grandmother says,
'Loosen up,
Sweetie.
If you can show off your rose buds,
then I can display my hanging baskets.

Happy Gardening.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very cute misty!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

thanks! I thought so, too. :)

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Funny Misty!

Victor, I'd settle for a card that had the slightest bit of nuance. Not too complicated. Like:
To the Woman I love but have some mixed feelings about because of the STD I contracted from you.
OR
Happy Mother's day to someone who at times was a great Mom which is remarkable given your drinking.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Dave - you are right about the cards. I only buy ones that make ME laugh.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Wow Dave, good ones

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Thanks. I actually made a divoce card up once before they existed. My divorcing friend got a good laugh out of it. That's an untapped greeing card area.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Funny, Dave.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

But that stuff has been around a LONG time. You gotta get away from Hallmark Dave! There have been off-color, dirty, offensive, etc., cards for years. It's blossomed even more with online cards - especially the animated ones.

I also stick to humorous cards 99% of the time. My wife likes a mushy one once in a while though.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I like something written from the heart - not Hallmark, etc. It could be on a sticky note, it's just nice to read something hand written, it means so much.

Please no card, candy or flowers for me. Something that I can keep that will last for a long time or forever. OK a flower you can put in the ground and let it bloom forever.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too, Deb. I like to use an online one that has beautiful animated cards with great music - Classical and original compositions and I write my personal note on it. It's very nice.

............you don't say - that often ;)

I did pick out one for my daughter's BD that my wife didn't like.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Shocking, Al!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I'm with you, Debilu. Those are the best.......like little surprises just for the fun and love of it! The card industry has just gone over the top. Who wants to get a card that is a full-page message of slurp? Not for me. Write a sincere sentence in bad grammar and with poor spelling, but with love behind it and that's GOLDEN!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Many crazed stalkers can provide you with that Louise!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Cool! I love mail!! LOL

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

When I was 16 and going to nursing school, I lived with my sister because she had an apartment near the hospital and I could walk to the hospital.
One night, I tied a long string to a toy, and put the toy under her bed, and the string into my room.
We went to bed that night, and she liked to read before going to sleep.
She was reading, and I pulled on the string a couple times so it made noise under her bed.
I could tell she was getting scared, and then I felt bad, so I quickly pulled the string all the way out so that she could see it was a toy and not be scared.
She got even more scared, she thought the toy was possessed!
Turns out the book she was reading was about just that - someone possessed and that could make things move, etc.
I tell that story at many a family gathering.
She just loves me.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It's a miracle you didn't require the services of a nurse (and a doctor) after that stunt!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And I thought only brothers were sadistic!

When my sisters and I get together we can have so much fun.
My sister Cindy is even more of a prankster than I.
She's always trying to come up with a gag for sister day.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I never got invited to sister day ;( I was even going to bring my Lemon Sisters and Beaches DVD's ;)
