I ordered online and received the following grasses.
30 Pennisetum alopecuroides
2 Miscanthus sinensis Malepartus
1 Miscanthus sinensis Morning Light
1 Miscanthus sinensis Strictus
The tops looked good and I'm so new at this, I just prepared my ground, planted them with love and mulched. So proud of myself. Nothing in my order told me to trim the roots or anything. Shoot!
After browsing the net, I realized that my grasses were definitely root bound (bad) and I should have trimmed the root ball. They have been in the ground now for about a week and a half.
Should I dig them up and do this or just leave them alone??
Oh gosh, I need some good advice here!
Thanks in advance.
Jackie
Help I made a mistake!
i am not an expert but i have planted rootbound plants without doing anythng special and they seem to do fine--i wouldn't panic!
That would be more of a problem with trees and shrubs, I'd think.
Thanks so much for you prompt replies. I feel so much better now.
If your plants look really poor, keep giving them water, but as they have been in the soil for as little
as a week, you could lift them and gently loosen some of the root ball to tease out some of the roots that are growing round in circles, then if you are into the cooler month (Don't know your zone) you will get them settled in for the winter months, I would add a liquid feed if it is not too cold, just to give them a bit of a boost and energy. Good luck. WeeNel.
