Overwintering Yellow Lantana

(Cissy) San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

I have a yellow lantana plant that is doing great. It's bright yellow blossoms ares so pretty. I have a small container garden and this plant stands above all the rest. I love it. I also have a low round container with the purple lantana. Pretty but not as majestic LOL.

I live in California (zone 9b). We usually have mild winters compared to other parts of the country...more wet than frost or freezing. My lantana is in a large pot, so it's movable. Can this be overwintered without moving it inside? What about on a back deck out of the elements? Back deck is not enclosed, just fiberglass panels above it. I'm so afraid of losing it during any cold spells.

Thankie!

In the ground they will come back, in a pot you can probably leave it outside, but if you're expecting frost I'd cover it up for the night. And I wouldn't worry too much about losing it--lantanas are a dime a dozen at local nurseries, for $4 you can easily replace it next year if something does happen to it.

Thanks Ecrane. I've had such a good turnout with this plant that I purchased when it was a little guy :)

I bought a "baby" yellow lantana. It was so pretty in the pot when it grew up and flowered, (all nice and contained a beautiful shape). that I decided to place it in the ground.
This is the third year in the ground. It is a low 3'-4' plant, but spreads out its limbs 4' all round , so it has taken over the area. Winters great here in the ground, even with the few frosts. It just dies back, and comes back thicker .
