Could someone please help me to identify this plant. Someone told me it was a night blooming cereus. Just want to make sure.

It's certainly an Epiphyllum, but the only way to tell for certain if it is the Night Blooming Cereus is to see it in bloom.

Hi Cinjane: It looks like you do have an Epiphyllum of some sort there. I don't know if it's the Night Blooming Cereus or not. Here's a link to the one called Queen of the Night: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2443/

Your plant looks similar to mine which is this one:

I've heard it is hard to get an exact ID on an Epiphyllum until they bloom. Have you seen flowers on your plant yet?

There are so many different Epi's, over 2,000 listed in Plant Files, some with photo's you can check out:

There's also a Night Blooming Cereus that is a Desert type Cacti ... with thorns. I'm not sure, but I was told years ago that the Epiphyllum's are more Jungle/Rain Forest types that don't like hot, dry conditions like the Desert Cacti.

Ditto to plantlady! Too many Epi's!

Not only that, but there are many more that are unidentified hybrids, and the blooms of many look so much alike that a firm ID is almost impossible, unless the bloom has truly unique characteristics.

Oh, but they are all sooooo Beautiful! I would love a room full of Blooming Epi's! Some blooms are fragrant too!

Yep ... Nan is right! It would be nice if all plants could have a correct label/ID .... guess we just have to enjoy them anyway even if we don't know what cultivar they are.

That would be *fabulous*, eh?

That seems to be my problem with Epis.....no blooms, and I'm still considering getting rid of the ones I have if they don't bloom soon! (Ü)

Thanks everyone for all the information. Mine has not bloomed yet because I just received it. Will let you know if it does.
