Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Quoting:
f anyone so much as mentions Donnie and Marie, you're getting kicked off DG !

LOL...Aw, not even a little Puppy Love?

Bwa ha ha!

Hometown, IL(Zone 5a)

My favs are mainly Heavy Metal; Rage Against the Machine, Nickleback, Audioslave, Metallica, System of a Down...

So much for Heavy Metal hurting plant growth.

However, I also enjoy Classical music, esp. string quartets. 1940's Swing is also a favorite. And when DH is not around, some Celtic stuff, and Harp music. African world music is also very cool. (Thanks, Paul Simon, for turning me on to the real thing!)

Anyone else like the sound of the Glass Armonica? I love it. If you haven't listened to it, look it up, and check it out. I think you'll be glad you did.

Guess I can't classify myself, after all...

Marsha.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

My 12 year old niece recently discovered an old Annette Funicello album in a box of records in their garage and has been playing "Pineapple Princess" ad nauseum for weeks !

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

Marsha I love Nickelback and didn't realize they were Metal? I also love classical, 40's swing, and Celtic. So I gotta check out Glass Armonica!

I remember watching the Donnie and Marie show, but never bought an album and they are not on my MP3 player. LOL! Not that I don't like them, they have nice voices, just I like others more I guess?

(Zone 7a)

Anybody mention Ozzy yet? Or Deep Purple, Bad Company, Sweet, Mac Davis, The Used, System of a Down...

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Manheim Steamroller has good Xmas cd's.

(Zone 7a)

So does the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

kwanjin...you are SO right !

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Didn't Mac Davis play with Black Sabbath.LOL Reminds me of Spinal Tap when they started out as a corny folk acoustic band.

Hometown, IL(Zone 5a)

Cactuspatch,

Just so you know, the Glass Armonica is an instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin.
Several of the great composers wrote music for it. It was "killed" by the claims that it caused nervous conditions and hysteria. The music world is all the poorer for it.

I think Nickleback is actually classed as hard rock/metal. But they still rock, no matter the label. Set it Off!! ;D

Marsha.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

jhonny mathis, any son but especially his christmas albumn and peter paul and mary

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

DH and I were just talking today about the best concert we have ever been to was Elton John at the Coliseum that concert hall is wonderful. We also say Celine there. It was wonderful.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Like 99% of the above. Have recently discovered Bradduh IZ. Israel Kamakawiwo , This Hawaiian Man. Makes my skin tingle. Downloaded three cd's from iTunes. Soothes the spirit.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Herbie, I forgot about Peter, Paul and Mary. Remember Big Blue Frog???

Glenview, IL

How 'bout Yanni? Kenny G? REO Speedwagon, Bruce, Rod Stewart, Cher, Striesand, Helen Reddy, oh my gosh Remember Tony Orladno and Dawn?? LOL

My radio is set for the classic oldies...many of you mentioned I love and it's great to hear my kids jam to some of the same...Ozzy,

...I am all for any music that is not swearing at me first thing in the A.M.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

One of my funniest memories,,,,,,,,,sitting on the beach with my long time friend.....her 15 y/o daughter runs up and says LISTEN TO THIS.... it was Yes...........I laughed and laughed. That's a golden oldie!

(Zone 7a)

I went to see Gordon Lightfoot on my wedding day of my first marriage. He was most excellent.

Glenview, IL

hohowa! Congratulations...almost forgot about Lightfoot, Had a friends who also had his music at her wedding! Bet that was a wonderful evening.

(Zone 7a)

It was. We got married in the morning and the concert that night . Then we went camping for a week. That was the best part of my whole 2 year first marriage.

Glenview, IL

Oh..My gosh...how wonderful for you! Love to camp. Where did you camp? I am thinking Utah! I'll bet it was just spectacular. I am dreamin easy going, relaxation and splendid! Want to tell some details? Did you go on some hikes?

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

i don't do camping. once our little group of freiends decided to spend the day at one of our local parks that had bbq grills for use but i brought my own gas grill. averyone laughed until they were waiting for the coals to get hot and me and my family were haveing backon and eggs. LOL

speaking of oldies. downstairs in the basement i have vinyl rewcords from 19 62 thru 1966 (when i was in the service) and my wife dbbie has hujndres of 45's. lately i have been seeing thse music systems where you can play a 33, 78 or 45 record and convert it into a cd. the cost has always been 399.00 but i just got a magazine thats selling it for 299.00. just last week i was looking through the albums and hows about this for oldies
anyone remember the albumn 'rumble, the paragons meet the jesters."" or how about paul and paula, the kingston trio, the letterman, the brothers four, the coastas and how can we forgetthe girl groups like the shirelles (sp)

we used to have fm 101.1 up here that played oldies all the time but it went off the air for some other format but recently came back.

enjoy

Lilesville, NC(Zone 7b)

Well thought i would put my favorite music in here...

I listen to Country....I think my all time fav's are Conway Twitty, and George Jones.

But i listen to today's country.....I love Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill, even named my 2nd daughter who is not 11 after her.

Char

Glenview, IL

I love Faith Hill, she has a remarkable voice. How 'bout Dollly Parton, and I still love Lorretta Lynn.

Herbie, Used to go on annual rafting trip, our friends lugged a gas grill the second year..Yep we sure appreciated that after a long hot day playing in the water. ...Don't remember what they sang, would recongnise it but the Sherells.
Hey are you going for the gadget to transform to cd's? That would be cool. I've a friend who won a Jukebox, she had an extensive 45 collection.

(Zone 7a)

Seedtosser1,...we went camping in the high Uintas. For those who don't know the area, it's near Flaming Gorge and some of the most spectacular country in the world. Parts of these mountains are so high, the trees won't grow, only grasses and such.

Glenview, IL

Sounds Awsom! Got some photo's? Highest I have ever been was the Grand Tetons, Thought it was the closest I've ever been to sky.
Especially at night watching the stars...saw my first shooting star there. What a sight to behold!

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Wow, great music, I've got lots of new ideas for downloading newsongs from itunes now

I 'll skip donnie and marie too. LOL

(Zone 7a)

EVERYONE should skip them! LOL

No, I don't have pics. Ex burned them. Long story and one I don't care to relive. Suffice to say, it's part of the reason he's an ex. I came out of that marriage with a beautiful daughter and nothing else.

Wow, didn't mean to go that far. I'll stop now and let's get back to the music.

I'm going to add Bear McCreery, Angie Hart, Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Blue October, Uncle Cracker and Bonnie Raitt.

Glenview, IL

Awww, you mean you don't like a little bit country AND a little bit of rock??? ok..ok I'll skip them too, heavy laughter going here!

...these Country people?
how about the Mama's and the Pappas? Redbone?

(Zone 7a)

Triumph is playing now on my player. Magic Power.

Hometown, IL(Zone 5a)

Ah, Leon Redbone. Another I forgot. I love his voice.

Also Kate Peirson (sp?) from the B52's. Check out the harmonics on "Roam." Fantastic vocal range!

Anyone like Tom Waits? The first song I heard of his was "Step Right Up", and I now have all his albums on my iPod. (Luckily a friend lent me all his CDs, so I didn't have to buy them from iTunes...) "Big in Japan" is also one of my favs of his.

How about The Charlie Daniels band..."The Devil went down to Georgia." And my personal fav of his ..."Long Haired Country Boy." (Plus a song I don't know the title to, about "this is my flag, it ain't no rag...")

Oh, and one of the greatest banjo players ever- Grandpa Jones. He was the main reason I liked Hee-Haw when it was on. He was so good, and looked like he was having the time of his life whenever he played.

How about Buckwheat Zydeco? Zydeco music's great, too.

I guess I like nearly every genre except for rap. I can even stand that if it's not too full of the F-bomb, and other related words. A funny "rap" group you might like is the Bloodhound Gang. Their lyrics are filthy, but they're funny without using too many curse words. Most of their humor involves word play you have to think about. I still wouldn't play it around kids, though.

(Zone 7a)

I was scrolling through my media player and found some stuff I haven't listened to in a while.

Earl Scruggs, Lester Flatt, Loreena McKennitt, Nik Kershaw, Yngwie Malmsteen...

london England, United Kingdom

Bon Jovi is gorgeous!!

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Fav music and artist ? Difficult at best as there has been so much great music composed and performed over the years. (read: centuries) One that comes to mind comprising both artist and composer is the six volume set of 33 rpm LP's from Columbia Masterworks I have had for at least the past 45 years: Bach organ music with Albert Schweitzer at the Parish Church organ, Gunsbach, Alsace.

The fourteen volume collection made by Deutsche Gramophone for the Beethoven Bicentennial is another wonderful set. Other Opera and classical works are appealing as are many of the Folk Music, Jazz and Big Bands, but the aforementioned rank as #1 favorites.

No one meant to leave out those previous to 1910. I'm not well educated there but do have a few basics in the house. I was so proud last week when my sixth-grade boy was the only one in the class who correctly pronounced "Bizet". I wish public schools tried to passively expose the kids at least. It would be so easy. Just play it!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

seed - i am leaving "little hints" aroundthe house. if no one picks up on the hints i will take some 45's and 78's and put them on the dinner table. LOL

forgot to mention the highway men. believe the lead singer was something yarborough or something like that. he became a human rights advocte and was arrested for trying to sneak alians in from mexico.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I think he means Glen Yarborough...

Glenview, IL

I dunno Herbie, you may have to add the ad to those 45's and 70' you casually leave around...hahha...might even have to say A nice suprise for dad or DH or something! But I hope you get it.

Ok on the way to I can't believe it but the Cowsils came to mind! uh I think they did 1,2,3 red light...or Love in my tummy, used to sing that to my kids while feeding them. LOL

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Didn't they also do "The Rain, The Park and Other Things" ???

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

My DH & I love Dougie MacLean. He's a very good contemporary Celtic musician. I also like Mark Cohen, Keb Mo, Jennifer Warnes, CSN, Jimmie Buffet, James Taylor, Judy Collins, Collective Soul, Glen Yarbrough, Frankie Laine, B.W. Stevenson, Hoyt Axton, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Elton John, Eric Clapton, ... good grief, got carried away!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

jasper - thanks. thats the name. also remember the cowsils. if memory seves me they were all from the same family. can't remember any of their songs. i do have a sammy davis albumn in which he impersonates several actors and singers and you won't belie how talented he was when it came to this kind of stuff. i saw him once in vegas in 1968 (my honeymoon) he put on some show.
