I don't thin kthere is any one cd or artist that has my fave songs, but there are several songs from each of these artists that I like
I also like easy listening music, no singing, just musical. and I like rock and new wave, not much country in my house LOL
there are a couple songs meatloaf sings I love.
Remember that 3 times a lady song? forget who sings it.
and eagles
zz top has a few good ones I love
how can I forget the creedence clearwater revival cd.
who are your faves
fave music and artists
The Commodores (Lionel Richie) --"Three Times A Lady" :)
I love all kinds of music, but a few of my faves are T. Rex, The Stooges (and Iggy Pop), Parliament/Funkdelic, The Roots, Talib Kweli and other intelligent rap artists, of course the classic stuff like the Beatles, etc, but also early blues (Willie Mae Thornton, John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson)...could go on forever
yeah, I forgot about lionel richie LOL thanks,
so you like rap ha?
I like the blues and jazz
definitely no rap, disco or heavy metal.
why wipe out 3 genres in one foul swoop? lol I like all kinds of music except most modern country but I am selective about what I listen to--might not like everything but there's usually a band or album or two in every genre that is truly good
Yep, that's right, there is alot of rap that is pretty neat sounding. and there are one or two songs from alice cooper I really like, isn't he heavy metal LOL
What kinds of music do you like jasperdale
kathyann...I'm probably partial to oldies from the 60's and 70's...SOME disco is ok...like the soundtrack from Saturday Night Fever, but after that, it was ever present here and I just wish they'd let it die! (Like most guys, I can't dance, so that's probably why I don't like it)
Too much of rap is demeaning to women and traditional values to me, so I avoid it completely.
Modern C W is cool, too...and the lyrics are pretty funny sometimes.
Pretty eclectic taste here..everything from Frank Sinatra to Harry Conick Jr. to Dolores O'Riordan (from the Cranberries) to R.E.M. and even Gregorian Chant...but no Metallica, Guns N Roses etc.
oh yeah, who's that guy that sings,
I believe in you, My mom's fave song, it's country music.
oh shoot, his name escapes me, he's a good singer though,
I'm not a big CW fan, And How on earth can one listen so carefully to rap music to tell what is being said ha ha........ I'm just playing here, I do understand what your saying though. most of the songs I listen to alot of the words escape me now adays.
Hey, I"m with you on the disco, I do like some of the 80's music though,
I have a wide taste in music like tropicanna.
I love the oldies too.
I love nights in white satin , that's a good song,
I love celtic music, love roy orbison
and I love the piano music from Frank Mills.
I have a very wide range in musical taste. Everything from Mozart to Marilyn Manson. Rap I can do without and some jazz is okay but it gets to be a bit much for me. Country music is okay at our house as long as it's the older stuff. Loretta Lynn, Moe Bandy, Waylon Jennings and my all time favorite, Patsy Cline. Lots of others.
Celtic music is standard on the weekends as it helps DH and I to relax. Even the reels!
Tradition Japanese and Chinese when I'm alone...
Soundtrack music from movies like "Nightmare Before Christmas" and "300"...actually, I have LOTS of soundtracks. LOL
Moody Blues song "The Story In Your Eyes", anything by Grace Slick and the boys, Janis Joplin, all of that era.
Newer stuff...Breaking Benjamin, Interpol, Marilyn, Tool..the list goes on.
Telling my age, but James Taylor, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, Carole King
All the singer-songwriters, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, individually and together...and as the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Hollies, and whatever incarnation they choose to call themselves.
Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, BB King
The Beatles
Dylan, Baez, Joni
I knew about popular music wehen I was teens to twenties, then got totally out of touch, like a lot of others, I think. I was thinking back to what 'albums' I had after I bought my own 'stereo system' with'tape deck' and turntable'. OK enough on the qoute marks.
Loggins and Messina, Pablo Cruise, CSNY, Alan Parson Project, Little Feat., Boston, Steve Miller, ...
AP Project I still listen to, a new Best CD. Recently back into classic rock with my teenager, Led Zep, Hendrix(hated before but can take and even like some)
Of new artists, hubby and I like Maroon 5, I also like Rob Thomas. Like some backstreet boys and n sync when the teen was into that a short while. Don't hit me! they were catchy!
If I were forced to choose only a dozen or so, they would
absolutely include the following and a few others:
BREAD
JIM CROCE
JAMES TAYLOR
LITTLE RIVER BAND
SARAH MCLACHLAN
NATALIE MERCHANT (Tigerlily)
ENGLAND DAN & JOHN FORD COLEY
NORAH JONES (Come Away With Me)
FLEETWOOD MAC (Tango in the Night)
TERENCE TRENT D'ARBY
Always a spot in my heart for PRINCE, and even a bit of room
for AC/DC, ELVIS and a few others.
SRV, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani, B.B.King, Roy Buchanan, Luther Allison, Albert King, Canned Heat, Albert Collins, Paul Butterfield, Muddy Waters, Taj Mahal, The Band, John Hiatt, Brad Mehldau, Bill Evans (the pianist), Tommy Flanagan, Red Garland, Oscar Peterson, McCoy Tyner, Gene Harris, McCann, Dave Brubeck, Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, John Coltrane, Page and Plant, Billie Holliday, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Peggy Lee, Nnenna Freelon, Ella Fitzgerald, Dianne Reeves, Barbara Morrison (great Blues lady), Etta James, Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson and not forgetting Pinkie!! (Pink Floyd)
Fingers too tired now......
Oh yes, Amy Winehouse, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Tanya Tucker, Gary Allan...(sexy)....K.T. Oslin, Patsy Cline, Mary Chapin Carpenter...
don't listen to much country nowadays, but have enough of the old ones to keep me happy.
Thanks for this thread Kathy!

Lots of different kinds. One thing I've noticed across genres is that aside from the classic jazz vocalists, a good criterion for judging is to pick people who write their own music and can play an instrument. This applies to most of the people already named, and the list reads like my Ipod contents, with particular honorable mention to Prince.
..let's also give homage to Van Morrison.
I love music. I just got a Creative Zen MP3 Player and so far I have 695 of my favorites copied to it! Our cable co. has about 20 channels or so for music. I tend to put mine on "Adult Top Hits" for a nice mix of country, jazz, rock etc.
My cousin who is a song writer down in Nashville recently sent me 2 cd's by singer/songwriter Ran Lamontagne. Amazing stuff!
Go here to listen to 4 of Ray's songs. I love "Empty"
