Babies from a leaf of AV 'Red Pepper'...

I had received the original plant as a bonus in an order this summer. The plant was dying, so I took a couple leaves before it died.

And now it lives on!

Thanks for letting me share! Have a great weekend!

Don't you know it!

But that's also why I like to share...
Just as everyone else's blooms and plants cheer me up, I hope that something I have can help cheer someone else up too!

:o)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

wow........you just cheered me up with all those babies on those strep leaves. You did great!

Just a reminder ... The Holiday AV Bingo game will be starting next week! Hope y'all will join us:

I have been planting up all day with bmedel's leaves she sent. I am taking two pieces from each leaf and cutting a (stem) petiole with each cutting just to make sure I get at least one strong plant.

I don't think the top of the leaf will make a plant

Some of the streps I got from Hill Country African Violet are starting to bloom. Couldn't get my camera out of super macro..........so you understand why they look like they do.

This is 'Susie'
I shouldn't have whined about the ones still available because they are nice streps.

I don't understand this 'Salmon Sunset' and the color. The color is so much prettier than the one I sent to Kim, yet they are both Salmon Sunset??

Oh Gail, Strep 'Susie' is a cutie! Love that color!

We are going to have to change your name to plantladygail! You just have so many wonderful botanical's .... gessie's as well as begonia's and other house plants! You need two names, plantladygail and gessiegail!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Hello Lin.......I love both names (LOL)

I do have too many plants....if I didn't hate to ship so much, I would empty my shelves. They are beginning to 'overfloweth' the stands.

Ok, now I'm really getting mad that I can't seem to keep these lovely plants alive! They are so gorgeous! I would love to have a set of 8X10 photographic prints of different Strep Blooms .... wouldn't that make an Amazing look to have an entire wall of Beautiful Flower Prints? At first I thought about maybe 3 or 5 framed photo's .... but I like the idea of many more on one large wall!

Do 'ya suppose I was overly excited when I got two Suzies?

Sometime this afternoon I will take 3 pics of little framed flowers that my daughter gave to me for Christmas last year. Look at the way they are framed and how great they look. We could do the same thing with our own pics.

Passion Pink has not quite opened but she is pretty anyway

OH Gail, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Fancy Pants and Zapped! Those are amazing! I really NEED to take some updated pictures as I have a few babies along some of my strep leaves that could probably be captured by the camera now *lol*
I'm still having alot of difficulty with streps though :( I actually seem to do better with babies than I do with full grown plants for some reason?

Stunning Gail, you do such a FANTASTIC job :)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Kim,
I have trays and trays of babies from seed. One of the mama's is Iced Pink Flamingo and the other is seed from Snowrose and I will have to ask again who the mother is. They are getting almost big enough to ship. Try them when they are little and see. Wait until after Thanksgiving, please (LOL)

My babies from leaf I haven't even potted up except for 2 Iced Pink Flamingos. I am far behind. Wished some of you lived around me and could help AND take some home.

***edited to say I lied......there are some little Spiritual Corridors from a leaf with the vein taken out. They are growing slowly as opposed to just taking a leaf and getting one strong baby from it.

I actually checked today and have little sprouts showing from Strep seeds I got from Snowrose! I didn't mark the name on the container but I think it was called 'Trumpeter Swan'. I can't believe I actually have Strep Seeds that sprouted! Now, where do I go from here? I sometimes have great luck with germination but then the little things end up dying. In the same container I also planted the little packet of Misc. Gessie seeds from the Gesneriad Society and they are sprouting too! Oh, how wonderful it would be if I could keep these teensy babies alive to maturity! I would be so happy! Gail, I sure could use some advice! I know they are too tiny to pot up on their own just yet ... I really want to keep them alive!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin....
I hate to give advice as it makes me nervous.
I would keep the top on the strep babies from seed for quite a while longer but do give them some air just by taking the top off for a minute. Don't keep them too wet or too dry. I always water mine from the bottom of whatever I planted them in. I hope you are using a very diluted fertilizer when you water now.

That would be both the seeds from the gesneriad society and the ones Snowrose sent you. I lied in an earlier post because I am so dingy. snowrose sent both of the strep seeds I was talking about.

I haven't planted up the iced ones she sent the seed to. I will post a picture to show you how big they are (I could have planted them up several weeks ago but I am running too far behind right now)

I am going to grab the camera and show you how big the gesneraid plants are now......I still haven't even potted the rest of them up in solo cups........again.........not enough time.

A friend just called..........be back with pics in a few minutes.......

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, I think you are going to be surprised at how easy this will be for you.

You can see that these should be have been planted up already! I have had the top off ever since they were about an inch and a half tall. The mother is a variegated iced one that Snow has.

The amazing part was that I thought that since I didn't get many seeds to germinate that i would have nothing to plant.......but look. There are still quite a few plants.

Here are the first ones Snow sent to me.
