This is pathetic, gessiegail!

Kohleria 'Clytie' is trying to open and I get so excited I had to take a picture. It doesn't do her justice but fun nonetheless!

She has the truest red bloom on any Kohleria I have ever had and her foliage is very dwarf and tender.

All I can say Gail is that you have some of the neatest plants!
VERY Pretty!
Great photo too :)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

hello, miss kimskreations!

I have been watching 'my team' get beat in football as I keep potting up all these little baby african violets from the mama leaves. Whatever was i thinking when I stuck this many leaves?? I must not have been thinking about the work that lay ahead when they were ready to be separated. (LOL)

Davison, MI(Zone 5a)

victoria print chimera & night beacon are really pretty. I'm enjoying the pictures on this thread.

I received a great hand me down from a friend this weekend and can't wait to have the time to plant it up. Look at the size of this Beta Bow that my friend decided she did not want to put fish in after all!! I put a can of diet coke in it just to give you perspective of how big this bowl is!!

I'm thinking of putting several sinningias in it together....we'll see

I placed my first order with Lyndon Lyon's a couple of weeks ago and was very happy with my plants. Here is sinningia Xandau x self which came with one bloom open on it and several buds

At the same time I placed the Lyndon order I also ordered from Rob's. I had a little panic attack over winter coming and had to place some last orders. LOL

I ordered two of the same plants just because i wanted to compare.....well Lydon kicked fanny with the size and overall healthy plants. They both cost about the same.

This is petrocosmea rosettifolia, with the bigger one being the Lyon's product

And the second comparison with petrocosmea forrestii, once again the bigger plant from Lyon's....

I was very happy with the Darth Vader Sinningia I ordered from Robs though.....

Now for a pretty bloom!! This is my first bloom on Seadrift, a plant that I grew from leaf!! So happy to see these first blooms from the plants I grew from leaves last winter!!

It was my first time growing from leaves and it took awhile to see results as they have grown without lights or domes or anything else!! I have about 15 different standard AV's that I grew that way just starting to put on their first blooms...exciting stuff!!!

Brenda, I love the Fish Bowl ... almost bought a couple at Wal-Mart a few months ago for planting up. They had both heavy plastic and heavy glass ones.

Love that Sinningia! Is that one that gets real large? Nice Pet's too. I agree about Rob's plants being a lot smaller. I've not ordered from Lyons yet but plan on it in the spring! Whenever I've bought from Rob's the plants have been on the very small size, some so tiny they did not survive. I only have the one Petrocosmea that was a freebie plant. It has grown quite a lot and is doing well, but no blooms yet.

Can't wait to see your Betta Fish Bowl all planted up! When you get it done, don't forget to post a pic!

Just went out front to water some plants and noticed the flowers have opened on this columnea.

Also ... not a Gesneriad but I have a Variegated Schefflera that's blooming. This first photo is from October 19th when I found these little Pine Cone looking growths:

This pic was taken on on the same day, same plant but different branch:

And, today I just noticed them again. I should pay more attention to plants in this area ... miss a lot by not looking at them. It looks like the buds are just popping open!

Congratulations Lin! I LOVE that Columnea! SO PRETTY!

Ok ... more that are not gessies and not blooming but I just have to show a pic of what I got from Gessiegail today! She is a Sweetheart! She knows I like Hoya's and look at all these she sent me - all lined up on the brick wall:

Let me crop it a bit for more of a closeup:

Left to right: H. 'Pink Silver' (pubicalyx?), H. cumingiana, H. carnosa 'Holliana' (I think), H. australis, H. Noid, and H. imperalis

I am a Happy Hoya camper!

Gail, Thank You My Friend! I owe you BIG TIME!

Ooops .... forgot the close up photo:

VERY pretty Lin! They all look healthy and happy. Isn't Gail juts the BEST! Very nice sizes too! Won't take you long to get blooms from those I"m sure *lol*

Awesome & Congratulations!

Kim

(Zone 1)

Thanks! Every single one was already a mature rooted plant except the Pink Silver ... I am hoping it will root quickly! And, I hope next spring/summer they are established well here in my house and will delight me with some blooms!

Yes, Gail is the Best!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

hey Lin, the lady here in Taft said that on hoyas if they have the peduncles like the Pink Silver and you still have to root them.........They will still bloom just like they had been rooted ????????? I don't know but that is what she told me.

I won't go to sleep tonight as we are both very excited. First stop on the trip? That would be the nursery who grows those inexpensive hoyas and all its cousins and relatives.

I have never seen so many beautiful and well established baskets as you have, Lin. You have been doing some serious growing for several years i can see!!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Wow, awesome hoyas!!! Gail you have great taste and Lin you are a lucky woman!!

It is true that if you root the pieces with the peduncles on them they just bloom away as if they were a long established plant. Some cuttings I purchased in June of this year had some peduncles on them and I had blooms within just a couple of months of potting them up!

Thank you Gail, but I can't take a lot of credit for what plants due here at my house. I have some that thrive and others that don't. I am trying to get better about feeding them regularly. I think the area of the country where I live has a lot to do with plant happiness! LOL.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Tomorrow when I am not so tired I will post pics of my trip. I think you are right, Lin, about living in an area of the country where the temps stay mild. There is a lot we can't grow like beautiful perennials, etc. but a lot we can grow year 'round.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh my goodness, look what I found blooming. I picked this chirita up somewhere and I have never seen a bloom this outstanding on a chirita anywhere. i though 'Aiko' was nice but this pink and yellow 'Dream Time' is the best of the best.

When I get caught up a little bit, i am taking this baby apart and planting leaves.

OOOOOOH she's outstandingly beautiful Gail! Congratulations my friend, awesome!!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Kim,

I am going to take a nap but she is even prettier in person than in this picture. A true pale yellow and nice darker pink....

When I get so many other things potted up first, i am going to plant her leaves.
She is too good not to share with others!!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

She is VERY pretty! Do you have her on your light stand?
I have one chirita and so far it looks very happy :) I really love the foliage on them :)
VERY pretty my friend, matches the doily I'm working on right now :)

Kim

Davison, MI(Zone 5a)

Lin, Is your yellow columnea called 'Carnival'? I see the red edges on those flowers. I might have received a cutting of one of those recently.
Cindy

(Zone 1)

Gail: Now you KNOW I LOVE, LOVE that Charita!! I've never heard of one called 'Dream Time' ..... Beautiful! Save a leaf for trading with me ... I owe you big time my friend and am waiting to hear what you want!

Cflowr: I don't know the name of that Columnea ... I think it was KimsKreations who ID'd it for me - oh Kim ... was it 'Apollo'??? It was one of those Exotic Angel plants from Home Depot that I bought last spring, and it was just labeled Columnea. I will have to go look up C. 'Carnival' now to see what it looks like!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Yeah Lin, at first I thought it was Apollo but Apollo has no red. Upon seeing a closeup of the flowers I think Cindy might be right :)

Gail, PLEASE put a leaf down for me too if you can spare it of the beautiful Charita :)

I ordered 11 packs of seeds so that HOPEFULLY I will get some beautiful babies to share.

Well guess what Gail? ONE of my leaves looks like it has 3 babies. It's a leaf from Space Dust too :) I'm SO SO excited about it. I would take a picture but they are still too small to photo *lol*. I literally had to squint to see them but I'm sure they are there :)

(Zone 1)

Way to go Kim! Isn't it so wonderful to see those little "ears" growing up from the mom leaf! Can't wait for them to get big enough to bloom for you!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

It was the NEATEST thing Lin when I took the dome off and moved the perlite away just to see those 3 little "ears". It really made me feel like "well, maybe I CAN do this after all" :) I have SO much I want to post but the computer with all my pictures and stuff isn't up right now and hubby is on his way home so I BETTER do something real quick like for dinner *lol* I miss having more time to "play" in the garden but right now I'm on a crochet kick *lol*

Kim

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You know I will send you chirita leaves......isn't she gorgeous...........

(Zone 1)

LOL Kim ... I think we need a thread titled:

"FIX IT QUICK DINNERS" before hubby gets home.

It's so easy to get carried away and lose track of time while playing with plants and spending time on DG!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Plantladylin,
Where are you? I need you! You sent me in trade for the hoyas all these rooted plants. I propagated a lot of them but I never got around to this one. So, I put it in a pot on the front porch until I could remember to cut it up, root the cuttings and make a pot.

I just went out on the front porch to water only the small 3 and 4" pots as i won't be here tomorrow.
LOOK at what i found! She is beautiful and check those red blooms that are magnificent. Please tell me again what she is because I can assure you that when she quits blooming I will make the time to propagate her!!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

This is artificial lighting under the kitchen cabinets so you don't get the true almost maroon red color that she really is. Check out how scrawny I let her get with no foliage at the top....shame on me as i can hardly wait to make more of her!

Thanks again and please, the name........

Gail: That's Lipstick 'Rasta' .... my "mom" plant has a couple of blooms getting ready to open again too!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Gee, she is every bit as pretty as the ones I saw at Hill Country Nursery. I am verrrry excited! Thanks for the name 'Rasta'.
